What to Expect book
Wonderful book, great insights. Definitely helps us being
first
time parents of a 3 month old!
Excellent - my "baby bible"! (Not in a religious way...)
We bought a whole host of books to help us be great parents to our
first
baby and this book was by far and away the best. It presents up-to-date research in a non-biased way. The explanations are detailed and interesting and not at all patronising.
I've read other reviews that find some of the conclusions drawn in this book unacceptable, e.g. that breastfeeding is best for the baby (proven by scientific research), so the conclusion is that most mothers will choose (and be able) to breastfeed, so there is a lot of information about breastfeeding. But there is equally enough information to make an informed decision on whether or not to breastfeed and the benefits and drawbacks of both formula and breastfeeding are listed.
I found the book to be open-minded and not too prescriptive. So, I read the information and chose to try some of the different methods mentioned. I didn't feel pushed to use or not use any of the methods, so for example, I used a mixture of formula and breast-feeding from 6 months to 1
year
, which is one of the options presented in the book.
The research is documented in such a way that you feel well-informed about any choice that you make.
Those friends I know who have enjoyed this book are mostly intelligent, well educated and dedicated to providing the best care for their babies (the baby comes first!), without neglecting their own health or happiness and that of their husbands.

Review for "what to expect the first year" book
The seller shipped my item same day. I received the book the very next day! Fast & prompt, just the way I like it. The book was described perfectly! I would buy from them again!
A TERRIFIC reference at your fingertips!
First
off, I would like to say that I was NOT a big fan of
What
to
Expect
When Expecting, so I was pleasantly surprised that I really enjoyed What to Expect the First
Year
. Even my husband found himself reading it!
I received this book as a gift and absolutely LOVED it. It gives you developmental stages for every chapter by age. They break it down further to: what they should be doing at 1 month, 2 month, and so on, what they might be doing, and what advanced kids might be doing. I've found myself checking out each chapter so I can get an idea of what to expect (as the title states).
This book also includes illnesses, what to do, cuts/scrapes/etc. as well as recipes, different scenarios that come about and what you could do when facing the same challenges.
I can't tell you how much this book has come in handy when being a first time mom and your kid is sick. It calmed me down as I was calling the doctor because it gave suggestions on what to do in the meantime while you are awaiting your child's doctor's appointment. I'm not saying it's a cure-all, but it does give you enough information that it quells some of your worries.
I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking that this book is "THE GUIDE" to everything, but it is a very good resource to help you along your parenting journey. Obviously this book is not going to speak for all kids, but it certainly helps out.
I bought the next stage What to Expect the Toddler Years because I loved the first one so much.
