Body
armor
has been devised for the commando forces that are to be dropped on Banshee-the home of the most implacable of humanity's enemies. A trooper in this armor is a one-man, atomic-powered battle fortress, but he will have to fight a nearly endless horde of berserk, hard-shelled monsters.
Still holds up after 20 years
I've read this book 5 times now over a period of 20 years, and I am still drawn to it. The original paperback cover shows Felix in his black scout suit bonking a bug over the head with the butt of his rifle. That picture alone pretty much sums up Felix's inner character, the "Engine". I would definitely recommend this to anyone who reads Science Fiction.

Gritty Sci Fi
I was given this book to my by my father in law. I read the first few pages and tore through it. I absolutely loved this book. It reminded me a bit of Heinlein's story telling but with a good dose of sweat and grit. The writing style was something to be experienced. Oddly enough, I didn't really like his later book Vampires.
Now don't go into this book expecting hardcore sci fi or detailed military strategy. This book is actually about story and characters in much the same way a Bradbury story is. It isn't about the science of space travel, military accuracy, or alien speculation. It's about people in harsh environments, physically and emotionally, who knuckle down to survive and win. It's in the top ten books I recommend when it comes to sci fi.

Why Isn't ARMOR a move yet? It's incredible.
I first read this in 1990. I just it again vacationing in Germany this week, 2008. I LOVE this book. It is so much more than Starship Troopers and could be made into such an awesome movie. Felix is fascinating in the suit and with Jack Crow
ARMOR
provides the best of both worlds - pure testosterone plus intellectual subterfuge. It also still has so much potential as a series.
My high school buddies and I still talk about how this was one of the best books we ever ready. If I had the money, I'd make it into a movie. A video game would really be fun to play. John, PLEASE give Hollywood or Blizzard a call!?
