Former Vice President and bestselling author Al Gore collaborates with his wife, Tipper, on a groundbreaking book about the changing face of the
American
family
Al and Tipper Gore have long considered family their bedrock. They've also spent many years studying the American family, and now, in this provocative and personal book, they explore the myriad ways in which the idea of family is being redefined. Over the past two generations, cultural shifts and economic pressures have profoundly affected every family in the nation: balancing work and family now poses a bigger challenge than ever before, day-care and after-school child care programs are too often dangerously inadequate, and new technological advancements have dramatically changed the ways we communicate. But if many of the traditional landmarks by which families formerly steered their course have disappeared, change has also opened up exciting possibilities, yielding an explosion of new family forms and novel solutions to age-old problems. In this penetrating and moving exploration of the contemporary family landscape, the Gores share stories drawn from their own experiences, as well as introduce us to a dozen other families they have come to know over the years. Combining personal insight and expert opinions, historical and global perspectives,

identifies an emerging reality-and demonstrates that, in the face of unprecedented change, the inherent need for family is stronger than ever.

Gore's good book
This book is very imformative and easy to read. It has alot of insight into families as well as history. A good read for anyone studying
family
, marriage, history or a fan of Al Gore.
The Gores Touched My Heart
This is a book that describes the essence of
family
. It is about being there for each other. It is about loving through bad and good times. It is about a bond that cannot be broken by miles or time, and it goes beyond blood. That is the message one receives upon reading this very introspective book. It also gives a closer look at the Gore family, and the love Al and Tipper shared with their own children. So many times those on the right in this country who beat their Bibles, try to preach to people that they corner the market on family, love, and morality. They only show their intolerance however, by attacking a family man and real Christian like Al Gore, who sees Christ's message of loving thy neighbor as thyself and puts it into action. A family is a mother, father, and children, yes, but it can also be an Aunt, an Uncle, or a friend. Anyone who gives us the love and support we need, and nurtures us through the important days of our lives, is our family. Al and Tipper Gore weaved this theme well in their book,

GORE'S LEGACY
Al Gore is a good man. Al Gore is an honest man. This may have been his problem. As an honest man, he found himelf at odds with the Clintons. Try as he might, he is linked to them, and this is the nexus of his demise. Whereas Clinton enjoyed popularity without coattails, Gore lacked the popularity and the coattails. Everything the Clinton/Gore team has touched since November, 2000 has been hurt by association with them. Gore lost the election. Joe Lieberman, his V.P., found his honesty drowned out in a sea of misinformation. Hillary tried to speak to firefighters and was bood off the stage after 9/11. Gore's book did poorly. Clinton/Gore campaigned for Democrats in 2002 and they were swamped. Clinton campaigned for Gray Davis in 2003 and he was beaten back. Gore spoke about global warming on the coldest day in New York City in 150 years, then endorsed "The Day After Tomorrow" as a big movie about global warming that has to be seen. It was so bad, got such terrible reviews, and was so universally panned as lies that it cannot be described herein. Gore has now taken to podiums, changing his voice to sound like Huey Long or George Wallace or some such Southern populist, rolling his r's, leavin' the "n's" off his words, and every time he makes these speaches those he opposes rise in the polls. Al said he "had" to be President, and now he just seems unable to accept his fate.

Useful For Protecting Your Rear When Sitting On A Radiator
I was reading through this book the other day during an early snow up here in Medusa, New York. Ol' Dipper doesn't care much for Party politics on either side, but I try to stay informed on current events. I bought this at a local bookstore and felt like a teenager trying to buy a dirty magazine. Even the young cashier with the blue Mohawk snickered at me when she saw "
Joined

Heart
". Trying to follow the ex-Veep's logic on the
family
soon had my head spinning despite the fact that I had only consumed large quantities of beef jerky. I soon came to the conclusion that I could marry my pet gerbil "Clyde" because I truly loved him/her. The Mormons who have been coming by ALOT lately were soon looking smarter and smarter ie. if I truly loved three or four or eight of those hottie blondie girls trying to proselytize me every weekend and was "Joined At the Heart" with them, I could marry ALL of them according to Al and Tipper's logic and The Dipper would be the Big Daddy of the Karnal Kingdom!!! And my hunting rifle!!! I love my hunting rifle so, I could now marry my Winchester and we could have little love children named Colt and Browning and Smith and Wesson!!! I love this logic!!!
Then I suddenly was jolted out of this Gorian fantasy world by the jarring clank of the water hammer in my radiator. It was REALLY COLD in my room!!! I realized that the rumors were apparently true that Al Gore is likely just a big, sweaty robot who has little understanding of how the real world of humans operates. Fantasy Utopia worlds are fun to think about, but when it came down to reality in this humble reader's world, "Joined At the Heart" became an excellent baffle protecting my bulbous derriere from getting blisters as I absorbed the soothing heat coming off my toasty radiator.
Read it only if you want to be informed on current events and don't have anything better to do. Otherwise, avoid this piffle like it was a rabid badger!
