The
Code
of the
Samurai
is a four-hundred-year-old explication of the rules and expectations embodied in
Bushido
, the Japanese way of the warrior. Bushido has played a major role in shaping the behavior of
modern
Japanese government, corporations, society, and individuals, as well as in shaping the modern martial arts within Japan and internationally. The Japanese original of this book has been one of the primary sources on the tenets of Bushido, a way of thought that remains fascinating to modern world, East and West
Amazing
As a soldier in the US Army; although not infantry; I found this book to be relative in my job and relative in my position as a Non-Commissioned Officer. With little typos here and there, you still understand what is being said to you and when you make sense of it, you find a way to relate it to you, your life, and your surroundings. I personally love how
Taira
made people of certain jobs and aspects look to be cowards because of their actions or lack there of. I highly recommend this book for anyone and to anyone. It's truly amazing.

If you have an interest in living by

s of conduct that are rarely seen in practice in the world around us, this is a good source to return to for reinforcement on occasion. I find it much more direct and humane than the Hagakure, and along with the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius and the Dhammapada, they are a great little library for personal reflection and moral guidance.
The Art of War for a Culture of Soldiers
This book is an excellent introduction to the martial culture that ruled the Japanese spirit until the end of World War Two. It shines with the spirit of a true knight of the soldier's way. The spirit of prudence, discretion and balanced living is alive on every page, guiding the thoughtful reader to a deeper appreciation of the core values that made Japan an island for soldiers and by soldiers, for a number of centuries. Rather than a treatise on warful living, or dying, as I expected might be the pitfall of a culture that culminated in the sad product of a Tojo, the down side of the worst of militarism, it is really more about living in control of one's mind and body for higher purposes, and has great wisdom to offer anyone, such as devotion to parents and their welfare, through thick and thin, and older years, and is complementary to the relevant passages in the Book of Sirach, Chapter 3, from the Catholic canons of The Bible. A worthy addition to any library. ~John Ervin

Code of the Samurai
This new novel by Jayne Joso:
Soothing Music for Stray Cats references The Way of The
Samurai
, so if you like that I think you are certain to enjoy and appreciate this also. As for The
Code
of the Samurai, it is an important read in relation to a philosophy of life, and it ought to be read and contemplated slowly.
The Code of the Samurai
I found this to be an O.K. textbook on the subject. It seems just a little juvenile on the presentation of the information. You would be better served with another textbook on this subject.
