Sometimes Fate delivers a left hook. After Fate deals Supreme Battle Challenge (SBC) fighter Harley Handleman a sucker punch, his uncle secretly hires a pretty lifecoach to get Harley back in the ring of life. Anastasia Kelley has actually known Harley for years, but never as well as she's going to now. Hot for his fighter's form, she has trouble keeping it professional, especially since Harley doesn't know she was hired. And when Anastasia turns the tables on him, it's as if he's been hit below the belt. But that's also where is uncontrollable lust for her burns.

Enchanting Review: Hard To Handle

HARD TO HANDLE - SBC Fighters #3
LORI FOSTER

Rating: 4.5 Enchantments

Extreme fighter Harley "Hard to Handle" Handelman was definitely on Anastasia Bradley's guy radar. How could she not notice his totally ripped physique when he'd run past her isolated mountain cabin? Stasia's training as a life coach had honed her intuition - which was sending up "danger" flares - plus she was his landlady, at least during his annual sojourn in the wilds. Harley's local reputation as a serial womanizer was legendary, so although she would look, it was strictly "hand's off" - no matter how tempted she might be.

Harley had maybe one more chance to fight for the title belt. A wicked combination of fate, bad luck, and rotten timing with women had thwarted his earlier attempts. He'd decided that complete control was the key to success: control over his body, control of his life, control of his emotions, and control over his love life, so there would be no more distractions. But Stasia never said or did what he expected. She made it clear that she was not interested in becoming a notch for his bed post. And, according to Stasia, he needed to surrender some of his iron control in order to win in the ring. When a series of freak "accidents" throw them together, Harley realizes that Stasia is in real danger, and that his feelings for her are more than casual. To keep her safe, he needs to keep her by his side. While Stasia is not sure she can handle him, Harley discovers that emotions can also be hard to handle.

HARD TO HANDLE is an exciting, fast-paced immersion into the gritty world of extreme fighters. Peopled with colorful characters interacting in a backdrop of a pending title fight, the plot grabs the reader by the throat and never lets go. Stasia's wry humor and occasionally caustic comments are uniquely insightful - and they get under Harley's skin, forcing him to re-evaluate his priorities. Lori Foster does a fine job of creating fully realized lead characters who are not clichéd. The development of their relationship is realistically uneven, mature, credible, and compelling. The well-developed supporting cast adds color, interest, and context. I genuinely enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more from Ms. Foster.

Since her first book in 1996, Lori Foster has become the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than sixty novels. Lori and her husband, their three sons, and their two Chihuahuas live in rural Ohio, outside of Cincinnati. Visit her website at www.lorifoster.com.

Great finish to the series

My favorite of the three.
Harley Handleman wants the SBC title belt. But fate has stepped in and kept him from the belt three times. While training for his latest attempt he starts spending time with the landlady of his winter cabin, Anastasia, who is a life coach. When attempts are made on her life he steps in to try to protect her. When he returns to Harmony his uncle Satch calls her and wants her to be Harley's life coach. She says only if Harley accepts her and wants to work with her. After Harley calls her she goes to Harmony which is where he lives, and trains, with most of the other SBC fighters.

RE: Pronunciation of Stasia's name. I've done a lot of research on the Romanov family (truly fascinating), due to a book I read by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Princess Anastasia was a daughter of Nicolas, the last tsar of Russia. The royal family and some household staff were executed in secret by the communist regime. There is some question if they all died since the body of Prince Alexei and one of the Princesses, believed to be Marie, were not found. Anyway, the name can be pronounced four different ways that I know of. European historians usually say Anna STA C Ah. I say ANNA stay ja.

My complaints:
*Harley ties women's wrists when he has sex with them, with their complete cooperation. While it's a little weird that wasn't a big deal. However, since all he had were one night stands it was inevitable that sooner or later one of them would "out" him.
*Are there really this many gorgeous people on the planet? And all of them in the same orbit so to speak?
*Barber should have had his own story and we knew next to nothing about Jasmine.
*How about writing women characters that have been legal for at least a decade instead of 3 or 4 years?
*The fight took place over, literally, half a page.

But I really liked the characters of Harley and Stasia and how they slowly worked their way towards each other. Catching up with the people from previous books was great but I hate to see the series end. Maybe a book about Satch for us older folks?

Perfect Sequel

Hard to Handle was a great sequel to the first two in the SBC series. I was not a fight fan, but love Lori Foster's books -- so picked the series up to see what I thought, and was truly and well hooked all the way through all three books. Can't wait for the next one in the SBC series!!!!

Deserves a 3.5

The thing I love most about an amazon book review is the opportunity to brag for the writer or rant. That or the fact that any customer above the age of 13 can publish their input.

I loved Causing Havoc and Simon Says. Lori Foster provided this excellent world in which the mixed martial arts fighting is disconnected from the readers.

Harley Handleman is a man with a mission. He must make it to the Championship fight and win the title belt that has been denied from him through unfortunate events and not from lack of skill. Anastasia (I just love that name) Kelley, a charming life-coach, has been hired to help him reach the fight safely. The only obstacle is the pesky attraction between the pair; oh, and the mystery villain trying to kill Anastasia.

Here is what I loved:
-Harley's friendship with the other fighters and their input in his love life.
-Harley's sense of honor.
-That Anastasia and Harley have a past - albeit a boring one.

What I hated:
-The secondary romance; it was just awful. The couple was badly matched and they "fell" too hard and too fast. Barber deserved his own story.
-The lack of detail regarding Harley's past. Foster crafted Dean's beautifully but it in Hard to Handle, it seemed as though she couldn't be bothered.
-Foster's attention to the male's occupations but not the females. I really would have enjoyed reading about Eve's party planning (Causing Havoc) or Dakota's singing and amateur detective business (Simon Says) or Anastasia's life-coaching.
-Why is it that someone always has to be stalked?

I hope this review has not been misleading. I really did enjoy the novel and I expect that you will too.
