No masterpiece, but an enjoyable escape
Ok. If you are looking for literary inspiration, this is not your book, but for a few hours of escape, this book could be your ticket.
The book is not so much about actual
knitting
--in fact, knitting hardly comes into the picture--as it is about the individuals who come together in an almost accidental group to share food, craft, and thoughts. Having said that, very little of the book is set around the group or even takes place when they are meeting. It is more about individual women and how their characters are formed from large and small experiences - how it all knits together, if you will. It is true that there seems to be a character to suit everyone's taste - young, old, Catholic, Jewish, Chinese, Black, happily married, divorcing, single. I didn't find that to be as terrible a literary fault as that there are so many characters that some are poorly developed. The story moves from one history to one adventure, to another disconnected history to an adventure. The stories are engaging enough to keep your interest, provided you don't ask too much; I just wish they had been better connected one to the other and perhaps a bit more developed.
Having said that, I would recommend this book if you are looking for something light to escape into for a few minutes. It's a fairly quick read and certainly has more than one enjoyable vignette.

Friday Night Knitting Club
My wife first read the the book and found it very entertaining, so we purchased a copy for our daughter as a gift.
A pleasent read if you have the time.
I think this was a pretty typical fast read. A somewhat uplifting book that makes you want to join some sort of
club
. Although it was long the ending was abrupt and there was only full charter development for a couple characters. A good book club book with the questions in the back though.
