The economic tipping point for the United States is no longer theoretical. It is a reality today. The country has gone from the world's largest creditor to its greatest debtor; the value of the dollar is sinking; domestic manufacturing is winding down - and these trends don't seem to be slowing. Peter Schiff casts a sharp, clear-sighted eye on these factors and explains what the possible effects may be and how investors can protect themselves. For more than a decade, Schiff has not only observed the U.S. economy, but also helped his clients reposition their portfolios to reflect his outlook. What he sees is a nation facing an economic storm brought on by growing federal, personal, and corporate debt, too-little savings, a declining dollar, and lack of domestic manufacturing.
Crash-Proof is an informed and informative warning of a looming period marked by sizeable tax hikes, loss of retirement benefits, double digit inflation, even - as happened recently in Argentina - the possible collapse of the middle class. However, Schiff does have a survival plan that can provide the protection that readers will need in the coming years.

Excellent! Peter Schiff is brilliant.

Great book. I highly recommend it. Peter Schiff is one of the few men on the planet that truly understands the world of economics and has done his homework thoroughly. His years and expertise in this business have proven time and time again that what he has predicted for so long has now come to fruition (I'm sure much to his dismay). This book is very well written and laid out in an easy to read format and explains economic terminology in a very comprehensive way. He takes you step by step from our country's financial infancy to current day and then to what he believes will happen in America in the future. He doesn't claim to be God but just informs us from his perspective that the financial future at this point in time for America looks pretty grim. Mr. Schiff is brutally honest in this book and stands alone on many a show for which he candidly addresses the economic truths that no one else dares to take on and has no problem going toe-to-toe with anyone who challenges him. He apologizes for nothing that he believes in. In my estimation, he is like a financial czar for America because he already sees the end from the beginning and has wrapped his brain around this financial disaster and knows the way out and is willing to share his knowledge and wisdom with those who will listen. He is a man who loves America like so many of us and would love to see our country turn around and return to a country of sound financial principles. After watching him for a few years now, I see that he continually warns the American citizens to be extremely careful of their investments, and not to be deceived or rely on the government for monetary solutions. As he states over and over, America is drowning in a sea of debt which is insurmountable and grows at an alarming rate daily. It saddens alot of us that our future generations will have to pay a very dear price for the decades that we have grossly mismananged the till. Mr. Schiff gives solid evidence for the blatant disregard that we Americans have for not saving for our own future and now will pay the price in spades. For those who are critical of Mr. Schiff's book and his conclusions, I can only reaffirm what his motto is, "There's a bull market somewhere." Take his advice and take advantage of this man's incredible financial insight even if it's just for now. Who knows, America may come to her senses one day and perhaps this deep financial abyss that we have dug for so long will be solved. Get the book.

If you don't like this book, you probably don't understand economics

I've noticed quite a few reviews that refer to this book as "self promotion", or "an advertisement for his services". These individuals are unwittingly divulging their anti-capitalist views. What is wrong with a person who is confident in what he believes and the services he provides? He is offering value for value. If these people believe there is something wrong with making money, why don't they stop reading investment books and give their money to charity? Could it be that they want to make more money for themselves?

Best book since Rich Dad Poor Dad

Best book to come out since Rich Dad's prophecy. Go to his website at Euro-Pacific Capital and educate yourself on macro-economics. There is a huge economic storm approaching and this book will help you protect your wealth.

Tax & Financial Planner's Bible

Peter does a great job of using historical precedent as underpinnings for his financial arguments. Don't fall for the "stay the course" investment mentality from the typical wire-house broker. As a Financial Advisor, Crash Proof is undoubtedly the most influential reading of my career.

Not the complete story but complete enough

While I see some limitations in identifying the true nature of the institutions and their role in undermining the American economy, I find no fault with the author's analysis of the declining dollar and its impact on the average citizen in the U.S. I would highly recommend this book to any person who wishes to survive the inevitable decline of the American way of life due to the present and further forthcoming economic catastrophe. Peter Shiff provides a clear understanding of the causes and some very practical steps one may take to protect whatever assets they may have.

What I see lacking in the book is an explanation of the orgins and mechanisms of the primary manipulator of our economy the Federal Reserve. However, that is understandable as there is only so much ground that can be covered in one book. For that background I would recommend the book by Edward G. Griffin- The Creature from Jekyll Island which is the definitive resource on this topic.

While you are at it you may also want to check out The Shadows of Power by James Perloff for a clear history and trace of the undermining activities of the Council on Foreign Relations who are also related to the some powers that control the Federal Reserve. After all, having David C. Rockefeller as your Honorary Chairman with Ben Bernanke, Greenspan, Dick Cheney, Condaleeza Rice, Daddy Bush, Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, John McCain and other key members of the cabinet and current power structure as long term members does tend to point a finger in the direction of this group.

All in all a recommended and for some eye opening account of what is already coming to fruition in America that could, in fact, save your economic life and well worth reading.
