In Skipping Towards Gomorrah, Dan Savage eviscerates the right-wing conservatives as he commits each of the Seven Deadly Sins himself (or tries to) and finds those everyday Americans who take particular delight in their sinful pursuits. Among them:

Greed: Gamblers reveal secrets behind outrageous fortune.
Lust: "We're swingers!"-you won't believe who's doing it.
Anger: Texans shoot off some rounds and then listen to Dan fire off on his own about guns, gun control, and the Second Amendment.

Combine a unique history of the Seven Deadly Sins, a new interpretation of the biblical stories of Sodom and Gomorrah, and enough Bill Bennett, Robert Bork, Pat Buchanan, Dr. Laura, and Bill O'Reilly bashing to more than make up for their incessant carping, and you've got the most provocative book of the fall.

So much fun!

This book was incredibly awesome! Dan has a way with his writing that captivates the audience and begs you to keep reading. So much in fact that I found it near impossible to put this book down to stop reading and get some sleep. It touches on some very awesome ideas without making it too personal to the reader.

The 1 star reviewers have a political agenda and haven't even read the book

After just finishing the book and reading the 1 star reviews on here it is clear to me that the majority of the 1 star reviewers hadn't even read the book. Rather they spent much of their time talking politics in a review and we're hoping to some 'good' by hurting the rating of this book.

True this book had quite a bit of politics, it is still humorous and entertaining. It definitely shows hypocrisy in many areas of American society and opens your mind to things that some people don't even realize is happening.

I enjoyed reading this book but I thought Savage went too far on talking gay politics. It was more than any reader wanted to read and more than he talked politics about any other subject. Understandably it is an area that he is passionate about but it takes away from the fun, entertaining aspect of it. A little political talk is good, too much gets boring.

Didn't Agree with everything

But it was nice to see someone stick it to social conservatism. It is a philosophy based on hypocrisy and lies; The leaders and adherents of which have just as many skeletons in their closet as anyone else (and some more than most). These People think that waiving a cross around gives them the right to intrude on people's most private moments (the Terri Schiavo fiasco), regulate consensual relationships (their attitude towards homosexuals) , and disrupt what ought to be sacred and private (Fred Phelps). I can only be happy that the younger generation gives no indication that it will accept these people's arbitrary control. The Days of Social Conservatives having any meaningful power and influence are numbered. Thank God.
