A long-ago accident has left lovely Bethany Coulter confined to a wheelchair-and vulnerable to betrayal and heartbreak. She's vowed never to open her heart to a man again. But there's something about Ryan McKendrick, the handsome rancher who's so sweetly courting her. Something that makes her believe she can overcome every obstacle-and rediscover lifelong, lasting love...

A breath of fresh air.

This book is so very different from any other book I have read from Catherine Anderson. Bethany is the only heroine to have such a life-changing physical handicap. Also, there's no murder case to solve, which makes it different, but not worse.

Bethany and Ryan fall in love immediately. However, Bethany thinks Ryan is just humoring her, and Ryan is confused of why Bethany avoids him. Bethany eventually convinces Ryan to agree for them to be just friends.

But for a month straight, Ryan sets to the task of thoroughly seducing her. Meanwhile, working on his ranch, to make it the perfect home for the future Mrs. Ryan Kendrick.

He does everything he could possibly do to make Bethany happy, but when he shows it to her, she gets furious. He's forced to admit that friendship was never on his mind, and he convinces her to stay. They set off on a wonderful relationship, in the end are forced to overcome the biggest bump in their relationship, and end with a happy ending.

This sounds cliché, I'm aware, but I love this book to bits, and I hope you do too.

I most definitely recommend this one.

Unexpected Turns

I enjoyed this book a great deal. There were numerous twists that kept me reading. I had trouble putting it down. If you enjoy romance with the unexpected, this is a must read for you.

Great read

This is another great read from Catherine Anderson!! I heart warming story with real life breathed into it.

first of the series

This was the first of the Coulter family books, about a paraplegic heroine. Very emotional, as are all her books, but the hero was just too perfect to make it a 5-star book. At least she does her handicapped heroines well, making them realistic, and not the usual people who attained sainthood along with their handicaps. Very interesting and frank discussion of sex for a paraplegic.

Syrupy sweet but not enough meat

I've enjoyed many of Anderson's books and this one is no exception. In Phantom Waltz she tackles the taboo romance subject of paraplegics, giving the reader a wonderfully emotionally touching story about a heroine who struggles daily with her disability and the hero who loves her just as she is. The only problem is that the story is TOO perfect. And I had to suspend belief too many times while reading this book.

*semi spoilers*

Its just too convenient that the hero is a drop dead gorgeous cowboy who is wanted by every woman in town. And he happens to fall in love at first sight with a woman who is physically perfect in every way except that she is paralyzed from the waste down. And unlike MOST paraplegics she has lots of sensations. And with all his money (yeah he's rich too) Ryan can buy Bethany any contraption she needs. And of course she doesn't want to become burden to the handsome stud so she gives him the red light on the relationship.

*sigh* The book was good -really, but just so very predictable. Too sugar coated. I wanted to see some real struggles other than I-can't-let-you-ruin-your-life-by-being-with-me. I just felt like Anderson breezed over the really hard issues that paralyzed people have to deal with.

So if the syrupy sweet factor doesn't bother you, then you go read Phantom Waltz. Its classic Anderson and most of her fans will love it. Me? I read it, enjoyed it and am moving on.
