Wealthy Lady Georgina Maitland doesn't want a husband, though she could use a good steward to run her estates. One look at Harry Pye, and Georgina knows she's not just dealing with a servant, but a man. Harry has known many aristocrats-including one particular nobleman who is his sworn enemy. But Harry has never met a beautiful lady so independent, uninhibited, and eager to be in his arms. Still, it's impossible to conduct a discreet liaison when poisoned sheep, murdered villagers, and an enraged magistrate have the county in an uproar.

Great story, great characters

This was another great read by this author, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, to the point that I wanted to start the third of the series the same night.
The characterizations in this book were wonderful, with the self-assured (to a point, of course) Duke's daughter, and her very proper (to a point) land steward. The lead-in to the romance between the two was great, and the sex was breath-taking, to be perfectly honest.

Their second encounter will stay with me, and I only wish other authors knew how to start a love scene with such a bang! The romance between the two was a little unrealistic in a historical context (in that she was staying the night and all), but really, who cares?!

Overall, a good 5 stars. I'm ready to read the third.

Enchanting Reviews: The Leopard Prince

THE LEOPARD PRINCE
ELIZABETH HOYT

Rating: 3.5 Enchantments

Lady Georgina Maitland, Mistress and Owner of Woldsly Manor, has often been considered flighty and quite irksome. It is simply not proper for a woman to not only own such a large estate but to run it by herself.

Harry Pye, her Steward, has been fighting and clawing his way back to Yorkshire for many years, and though he would like to get revenge on Lord Grayville, he cannot afford to throw away everything he has.

England, 1760. Someone is poisoning the local farmers' sheep and causing trouble for Lord Grayville, and everyone is blaming Harry of the crimes. Lord Grayville had treated Harry and his father wrongly in the past, while Harry's return to the countryside marked the beginning of the assault and is causing everyone to believe he is responsible.

Is Harry responsible? How does the leopard prince play into the tale? And will Georgina finally know what it means to be a woman? To find out the answers, you have read THE LEOPARD PRINCE.

Ms. Hoyt, also writing under Julia Harper, is a treasure when it comes to recreating the past and she does not fail in THE LEOPARD PRINCE. Though it is a well-told story, the beginning has a slow pace. The end is all you will expect it to be, and in the end, that is all that matters.

Thoroughly Engrossing

I liked this book so much I breezed through it in two nights, highly unusual for me! Reminded me very much of Lady Chatterly with the basic premise--aristocratic Lady falls for lower class employee. There was plenty of action and intrigue for me, each character was well-developed with their own distinct personality, and the hero...sigh.

I'm no expert in the Georgian England period, but historical sticklers will find fault with George's actions--spending the night at his cottage, showing up there unannounced and alone--but because of the witty and fast-paced writing style I was able to easily suspend disbelief. I believe I've read the Raven Prince, so will definitely check out one of her newer novels.

3 stars is generous.....

I loved The Raven Prince. It was so sexy and unique that I immediately couldn't wait to read the next book in the series The Leopard Prince. I should've waited and perhaps not even bothered.

The Leopard Prince starts out wonderful...the first couple of chapters are so witty and sweet that I was devouring every page...and then something happenend.

A ridiculous plot (sheep killing), a contrived villain, an unlikely couple with no resolution to their class difference, and this is only the beginning. I will say this...the love scenes are as scorching as they were in The Raven Prince, but this just doesn't matter if you don't like the plot and people in the book...which I didn't.

I recommend The Raven Prince highly, but this one is mediocre at best.

Disappointing follow up

I was SOOO looking forward to this one after The Raven Prince, which in my mind was just about perfect. While I liked both the characters, the chemistry just wasn't as believable to me this time around or as subtly expressed. There is a very good villain, however his demise is contrived to occur at the most opportune time for the story, and there are oh-so-convenient misunderstandings between the two lovers designed to delay gratification and make the book longer. Another complaint of mine is that there is no resolution of of the primary barrier in their relationship (class differences) at the end - simply their stated commitment that they would find a way and live "happily ever after." I would have liked the author to have presented an actual solution to the problem that Harry and Georgina spent so much time fighting with, and therefore I spent a fair amount of time reading about. What common ground did they find? How did they find a way to live that they could both accept? I was glad to see Edward de Raaf and Iddesleigh make brief apearances in this volume, and will look forward to The Serpent Prince, but not too much.
