Equal parts Light and Shadow, Joanna Archer must fulfill a destiny she never wanted. Once a photographer and heiress to a casino fortune, she is now dedicated to the cause of good . . . but susceptible to the seductions of evil.

A deadly virus is descending on Las Vegas?a terrifying plague unleashed by the powerful overlord of Zodiac's dark side: Joanna's father. Chaos and panic grip Sin City as agents of Light fall prey to the terrifying epidemic. Death reigns supreme?and Joanna stands at dead center of an epic and terrible war long foretold, the last hope of a damned world.

But first she must somehow conquer the malevolence that grows all around her . . . and within.

Can't wait to experience the Third Sign

In the Second Sign of the Zodiac, our heroine faces a plagued battlefield as Las Vegas is attacked by a quickly spreading virus. She is faced with a fledgling shadow playing powerful games that effect everything about her and the vengeance of wanting all of the men who hurt her dead. Joanna has to choose where her allegiance lies and what really is the most important thing in her new life.
I enjoy Pettersson's approach on humanizing and growing Joanna at the same time. Taste of Night has Joanna exploring consequences of what she has become and who she really is. There are always sides of characters that in all hopes they grow out of the obsessions of needing Ben and the constant need for vengeance over all else that leads her to be a less effective hero and well sometimes plain stupid. I know that some thought that less would be more in the afore mentioned would be better left unwritten but if it is used as a stepping stone to move the character forward I feel it is warranted and an integral part of the plot as a whole making it the perfect sequel to the First Sign of the Zodiac as well as the perfect prequel to the third Sign of the Zodiac.

Going great!

Yes, I truly like this serie. As it happened with the first one, I found this book fascinating. I like the idea of two sides of the zodiac, one light and another shadows, and that they have to work for the balance. Is like the topic of good and evil but with some new twist added on the middle. I also liked the fact that the main character, Joanna, is a little of both sides, and she can choose in what side to be. I liked it, because the other ones where born to be light or to be shadow, without being able to chose.

I also like the character of the Tulpa, who's created from the mind of another one and makes himself into an independent being.

All in all, is a nice book to read, and I enjoyed the fact that Joanna, as happened a priori on the first book, has to accept who she is now before asking for acceptance between her comrades. Even to the point of leaving behind all she has so she can be who she really is.

The only thing that bugged me a little was her narrowmindness on vengeance. I found myself getting a little tired of her and Joaquim, who she is bent to destroy without anything else making her think twice about it until... (no, no spoilers).

All in all i'm still enjoying this series as much as when I started reading it, so I want to read the third one!!!

I love this Series, The Zodiac Series

In this book, the second book of the Zodiac series, the book opens about 6 months down the road from where the first book left off, Joanna/Olivia is at a charity auction where she is one of many dates being auctioned off. When she goes to meet the man that bid the highest for her, he calls her Archer and tells her, he know exactly who she really is. She follows him, and another Blonde woman that was bidding on her and is almost killed as the man is a Shadow agent and the woman is a Shadow initate. Instead the Blond woman shoots out the shoulders and the knees of the shadow man and hands Joanna/Olivia the conduit that belongs to the Shadow agent and Joanna kills him. Joanna makes her first mistake in not killing the shadow woman, her name is Regan and she knows Joanna's true identify. Joanna makes a lot of mistakes in this book and she paids dearly for her mistakes. She finds herself, becoming truly fond of her sister Olivia's best friend Cher and doesn't have to fake liking her. She still has a one track mind on hunting down the shadow agent that raped her, this also messes with her head and puts her and others in danger.

A deadly virus is unleased in Las Vegas and it also infects the agents of the light. Joanna's Father is the one that unleashed the virus.

Joaquin is the shadow agent that raped and beat Joanna when she was 15 and left her for dead when she was 15, he did it at the command of her Father, the Tupla, that is before the Tupla knew that Joanna was his Daughter. The Tupla hates Joanna's Mother (Zoe) we have yet to meet Joanna's Mother in this series.

Joanna meets Regan and falls right into her trap, will Joanna, be able to redeem herself with the other agents of the light or with Warren, their leader? I think it is a sign of a good book when you get emotionally involved with the characters, once I pick up one of these Zodiac books, I just have to keep reading it until I finish the book.

Quite an enjoyable read!

I just loved the "different" feel of this book... I found myself surprised by several twists and turns along the way... not just an old predictable read. I couldn't put it down!

Kind of a retread, but still fun.

Vicki Pettersson, The Taste of Night (Avon, 2007)

Pettersson's second Signs of the Zodiac book says "series fiction" just a little too loudly for me; most authors seem to take two or three books to settle into some conventions, while Pettersson adopts them wholeheartedly here (though she does avoid the "retell the whole story for the first half of the book" curse that afflicted, say, Terry Goodkind). I guess I shouldn't be surprised by this, given that it is series fiction, but something about it just rubbed me (slightly) the wrong way. That said, if you liked the first one, you're going to like this one; Pettersson's fantasy-CSI-on-crack approach to the dark side of Vegas is still right on the mark, and she's come up with a good'un here: the Shadow Zodiac have released a virus that's randomly killing the populace, and the good guys have to figure out what it is and how it's transmitted before they can figure out how to stop it. The same blend of suspense, intrigue, romance, and action that carried the first book is very much at work here. If you like urban fantasy and you haven't checked out Vicki Pettersson, you're in for a good time. ***
