The astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Taliban’s backyard

Anyone who despairs of the individual’s power to change lives has to read the story of Greg Mortenson, a homeless mountaineer who, following a 1993 climb of Pakistan’s treacherous K2, was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers and promised to build them a school. Over the next decade he built fifty-five schools—especially for girls—that offer a balanced education in one of the most isolated and dangerous regions on earth. As it chronicles Mortenson’s quest, which has brought him into conflict with both enraged Islamists and uncomprehending Americans, Three Cups of Tea combines adventure with a celebration of the humanitarian spirit.

Another book for my favorites shelf

If only the presidents of countries and leaders of the nations would do what Greg Mortensen did there would be no war. I loved the book and walked away amazed! I bought this book for friends and family after reading it. It was an "upper" book. Excellent!

Must read

This is a must read for anyone who has ever thought one person can't make a difference in the world. Greg Mortenson's work is truly inspiring.

Extraordinary

Mr. Mortensen, you should really be proud of yourself! Thank you for sharing your amazing story.

Can't get it out of my mind....

Have you ever read a book that when you put it down, you immeadiately pick it up and read the first few chapters again....yep, I was so bummed that I was finished that I seriously started reading it again. I have spent the past few days in Pakistan and Afghanistan, traversing mountains, building schools and becoming immersed in a culture I knew little about. Do yourself a favor, pick up this book--even if you're "not a nonfiction" kind of guy/gal. It's nonfiction that reads like fiction--and it's a important book for all cultures to read. It has seriously helped me look at my life in a whole new light. You will NOT be disappointed...
