Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned
shack
deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

Fabulous story with a message of good news-God does NOT love us because of how we behave.
I read this book with much hesitation. I feared this would be another mix of "new-age" thinking with just enough of the Truth to make it seem reasonable. What I got was blown away with "Grace Walk" "The Normal Christian Life" "What to do when the Christian Life is wearing you our" in the form of a story-- sweet and simple. This is NOT "doing away" with the person of God as we know Him, "High and lifted up and the train of His robe filled the temple." This is rather, the God we all need to know on a personal level, the one "who rejoices, singing over me."
In my experience (and I am a very conservative, evangelical Christian who has had some serious issues to get over)God meets each of His children as individuals and "just as we are." "Warts and all." This is NOT cheap grace by a long shot. Putting down the shovel cost Mack a lot--it cost him his rights to his life.
I've read it twice in a short space of time. It is worth even one read, but I'll warn you after you read it you will begin to see God in EVERYTHUNG as He relates to you in your world.

The Shack is awesome
I loved the
Shack
. I don't know that I have ever been so emotionally affected by a book! It gave me such a vivid impression of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Everyone should be able to relate to the feelings Mack had of blaming God and not being able to trust, and all of his "Why" questions! What an incredible story! I hope the movie is exactly like the book, if it isn't it will be a waste of time!
It's all about relationships
There may be some controversial statements in Mr. Young's book, but the overall theme of knowing God on a personal level and knowing that He knows us on a personal level was invigorating. The suspense and confrontation kept me turning pages. It was a great read and I recommend it highly.

Universalism
Nice little book with some really good thoughts. Could have been written in half the words and been just as good. Anyone that bases their beliefs on this book might want to watch out for someone offering them Kool-Aid.
