Top Notch

I thought the book started off slowly, but suddenly it took off and I couldn't put it down.

I loved the bit about the funeral. Her description of the non-denominational church and minister and the words to an updated 23rd Psalm had me laughing out loud.

The guilty person took me by surprise, but it shouldn't have. An exciting end as usual.

Is he or is he not?

Kinsey's "I" outing is a doozie. After the PI who was originally on the case dies suddenly, Kinsey is tapped to replace him. His files are a mess, the murder took place 5 years ago, but she's determined to earn that paycheck. And it's only by dint of her dogged insistence on getting to the truth that Kinsey finally discovers the truth. Other deaths occur - are they related? Several suspects emerge. Hitherto unknown crimes are brought to light. She's got her hands full, but Kinsey's smart and resourceful, and eventually, she figures things out, and it's not a pretty picture.

An excellent and clever read!

This is a fantastic Kinsey Millhone book! I did not predict the outcome, and Grafton has so many characters that all seem to have motives that she could have practically chosen the killer at random. The one that she does choose is perfect. The climax is a breathless read where all the pieces fit together and Kinsey never loses her charm, even in a most grave situation. It's hard to just read one of these books. There are some characters and minor plots that do follow in the series, but it is the skilled construction and delicious characters that make you want to pick up another just as soon as you finish the final page of one. Completely enjoyable!

Innocent???

A Private Investigator drops dead and Kinsey must tie up his loose ends before the trial begins. The victim was shot by her husband and the ex-husband is suing for her estate. It is one of Grafton's fast moving plots with its own complications. Grafton is on of my favorite authors and she didn't let me down with this one.
