How many people would kill to be a
bestselling
novelist? Especially one like Janet Evanovich.
Write
rs want to know how a bestselling
author
thinks, writes, plans, and dreams her books. And they are primed for a book from Janet Evanovich that tells, in a witty Q&A format:
? How she comes up with such remarkable characters
? How she nails the perfect name every time
? How she finds out insider details
? Just how she sets up those masterful plots
? What the life of a full-time writer is really like
? What she?d tell an aspiring author about the publishing industry
? And much, much more!
This book details the elements of writing and publishing a novel, and addresses all categories of fiction?from mystery/thriller/action titles to romance; from stand-alone narratives to series. It offers practical and inspiring advice on such subjects as structuring a plot and handling rejection. And it combines one of today?s most successful fiction writers with a published non-fiction writer who teaches creative fiction. HOW I WRITE is the perfect reference for anyone looking to improve their writing, and for those fans who are hungry to find out more about just how Janet Evanovich ticks.

GOOD, PRACTICAL TIPS ON WRITING
Working with Teacher Yalof and daughter Alex, Janet turned out an excellent, down-to-earth practical logical guide to many factors involving all
write
rs, such as characterization, dialogue and resources. She tells you how she gets thru the writing blocks, the blank screens, rejection, agents, publishers, book tours and how she finds motivation with music, TV, movies, etc. She has a great sense of humor and when she was asked how she likes to unwind, she answered, "I don't unwind. I just keep going. If I ever unwind, I might not get wound again..." Lots of tips and sensible advice. Good review for any writer....

GREAT FUN WITH STEPHANIE'S MUM
I received this book last week and although I haven't read it right through, I have to say it is great fun and has a lot of practical advice for
write
rs. Janet Evanovich believes in the showing not telling mode and it works! I have always been a devoted fan of the mad and engaging character, Stephanie Plum, and now I must congratulate her on having such a clever mum!

Good For Beginners
I've been looking forward to reading this book since I saw it listed. However, as someone who has read many great books on writing and have been published, I was disappointed with this book. I had been expecting a stream of unique thoughts and insights on writing. Instead, this book is a Q & A of questions that Janet has answered her fans from her website, sprinkled with technical tips by Ina.
For me, it wasn't unique and I didn't learn anything new. I confess that I skimmed through a couple of the Q & A's because of redundancy or because I've heard it before. The layout isn't conducive to a thorough covering of any one topic. Also keep in mind that some of her advice isn't what the majority of publishers and agents recommend.
However, for anyone who's an Evanovich fan or who is just starting in writing, this book could be helpful. Her voice was strong and she does have a way of cutting through things in a no-nonsense and humorous way.

Janet Evanovich's "How I Write" Book
You don't need to necessarily want to
write
a novel to want to read this book. In fact, if you are a fan of
bestselling
author
, Janet Evanovich, and simply want to know more about how she writes a novel, then you will absolutely love this book!!
The book's chapters are arranged based on various topics. "How I Write" reads more like an interview than a traditional nonfiction reference book. Questions posed by fans from Evanovich's website over the years regarding how she writes and general questions about writing along with her answers to the questions make up the bulk of this book.
There are also some great tips blocked in gray which summarize or add to what has already been written in the book are wonderful. Plus at the end of "How I Write" there is a great reference section, which contains pertinent book titles on writing, great websites on various writing organizations and writing contests, etc.
This book is definitely a quick read. I finished reading "How I Write" in one day. The font is huge and the book isn't very long which is why I was able to read the book in one day. I feel that this is the major reason I gave the book a four star rating instead of a five star rating. Don't get me wrong, "How I Write" is a good read with great tips and is useful for writers who want to be inspired to get writing from an already successfully published and bestselling author.... Evanovich has a lot of great things to share with regards to writing a novel and imparts her information in a very positive way.... I just think the cover/list price of $13.95 for the length of the book is a bit steep for what you get.

THERE ARE WORSE BOOKS
HOW I
WRITE
is fun to read but it doesnt reveal anything that isnt in every other how-to-write book. Evanovich gives you the basic stuff without disclosing anything that makes her writing special. I didnt expect she would.
Most how-to-write books dont really explain how to write beyond the general prescription, which is lacking in good details.
