The beautiful practicality of her teaching has made Pema Chödrön one of the most beloved of contemporary American spiritual authors among Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. A collection of talks she gave between 1987 and 1994, the book is a treasury of wisdom for going on living
when
we are overcome by pain and
difficult
ies. Chödrön discusses:
Using painful emotions to cultivate wisdom, compassion, and courage Communicating so as to encourage others to open up rather than shut down Practices for reversing habitual patterns Methods for working with chaotic situations Ways for creating effective social action

Things don't have to be falling apart...
I was reading this before bed the other night and my boyfriend looked at me, very concerned, and asked "do you think
things
are
fall
ing
apart
?" To which I replied no. The lessons in this book, and many other from Pema Chodron are full of insight and help me to see myself for who I am. I don't think your world has to be crumbling for you to have to read this, but
when
things do, you might be able to remember something from this book and feel just a little better.
Helpful in facing death and dying
I was given this book as my 34 year old husband was dying of cancer. I credit it with reframing my attitude towards my loss. I have returned to several sections since his death as reminders about living in the present and not letting outside circumstances strip away inner joy.

A needed respite
The wisdom in this book is so practical and welcomed. In the midst of all of the chaos we live in, taking time to center and take the larger view of life is such a welcomed prespective. Maybe if we took the time to look within we would be able to find our way in the world with more grace and peace. I would highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a more peaceful environment.
Got me through a tough spot
This CD got me through a tough spot
when
my mom died and other bad
things
where going wrong in my life.
Not for the Weak of Heart
My therapist recommended that I read this book. Did she forget the reason I began to see her? If you're looking for encouragement or hope this book is not, and I repeat NOT for you. However, if you are a realist or want the hard truth you'll find it here.
