Elaborately decorated
cookie
s fill the shelves of high-end bakery cases, tempting shoppers with bright colors and whimsical shapes. The cookies are beautiful, but buying them in a bakery can be shockingly expensive, and their flavor often doesn?t live up to their appearance. Now home bakers can have their pretty cookies and enjoy eating them too!
Thanks to the clear instructions and practical methods developed by authors Valerie Peterson and Janice Fryer, amateur cookie
craft
ers can achieve bakery-quality design and homemade fresh taste. Cookie Craft gives readers access to the entire world of decorated cookies, beginning with an inspirational gallery of 150 colorful cookies guaranteed to start those
creative
juices flowing.
The authors go on to discuss ingredients, supplies, equipment and technique. They include four delicious recipes for rolled cookie doughs (Traditional Sugar, Chocolate, Nutty, and Gingerbread) that provide perfect blank canvases for decorating, and, of course, their recipe for versatile Royal Icing.
In the most important section, they share the design
techniques
accumulated and perfected during hundreds of afternoons spent crafting thousands of cookies. Cookie crafters will learn how to pipe, flood, and sugar their cookies, how to design color palettes that work with every season, how to make cookies stand up in fun 3-D structures, and much more!

The only cookie decorating book you need!
I don't write reviews too often, but this book definitely moved me to write one. I have some time off after moving and wanted to teach myself a new skill, and my family loves sweets, so... cake/
cookie
decorating it is! Comparing to icing cakes, cookies are a breeze (at least to this novice.) The
designs
in this book are cute without being too twee, and are relatively easy to do. I made the wedding cakes and hearts, and both turned out great, despite NEVER having done it before! The cookie recipe is even good, and I was a little suspicious (I've just made the vanilla sugar base cookie.) Basically, be prepared to buy a little equipment (Amazon sells a great selection of cookie cutters, actually!) and spend some time. If you're making cookies for an event, start a day or two beforehand, or even make extra dough and freeze it for whenever you have a free weekend!
I can't recommend this book enough. I checked out probably 5-6 cookie books, I was totally unimpressed with the rest. This is the one to have! (Love the recipe for Royal Icing too. It worked great and I can use those pasteurized liquid egg whites - no ordering online if I don't want to!)

Wonderful!!!!
If you can buy just one book about
cookie
and/or decoration, buy this!!!
It is the really must-have and it changed my way of thinking about cookies!!!
Just 4 fundamental recipes (plain, chocolate, gingerbread and a nutty-yummy one) and LOADS of interesting tips about speeding the process of roll-bake-decorate-send. And what a wonderful edition too: with a old-fashion look I found so appealing!
Good writing and funny, too! And cristal clear instructions...
I love this book!
Great All Around Cookie Book
This book is great for a beginner or an advanced decorator. The book contains everything
from
delicous recipes to step by step directions to make gourmet looking
cookie
s, and ideas for all sorts of themed cookies.
I love that it breaks steps down so that it is not overwhelming and seems easier to accomplish.
I could not reccomend this book more. It would be great for a gift as well!

Pretty AND Tasty!
I have always enjoyed making decorated sugar
cookie
s at Christmastime, but they were never that great. The cookies themselves were only okay, my frostings always smooshed down and I never knew what to do with the actual decorations, I was a woman with cute cookie-cutters, but without a plan. This is the book that changed all that.
I've now made the plain butter (with the tasty lemon zest) and the chocolate butter cookies serveral times and have yet to be dissapointed. There were a few tricks about rolling out the dough and when and for how long to chill the dough that were worth the price of the book alone.
From
the cookie recipes themselves to the royal icing and flooding
techniques
to how to get the decorating sugars to stick, the book is well written, FULL of great pictures for ideas for all
occasions
and explanations for techniques that I thought I knew, but didn't.
I love this book, it brought my decorated cookies to the next level and I couldn't be more pleased. After reading through this book I went out and increased my cookie cutter collection and can hardly wait to make even more! This book has a place of honor in my kitchen and I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind taking a little time (decorating cookies is time consumming no matter who's recipes you're using)to make a truly stunning result.
