There is a process of unprecedented change unfolding within the earth. You are part of the change. Without knowledge of the artificial boundaries of religion, science, or ancient mystic traditions, the change is characterized as dramatic shifts in the physical parameters of Earth accompanied by a rapid transformation in human understanding, perception, and experience. This time is historically referred to as "The Shift of the Ages."

As science witnesses events for which there are no reference points of comparison, ancient traditions say that the timetable is intact; the events of "The Shift" are happening now. Each event carries with it a similar message, and is a by-product of something much more significant than the event itself. During key moments in human history, wisdom has been offered allowing individuals to experience rapid change without fear. This is one of those moments. You are living the completion of a cycle that began nearly 200,000 years ago, and a process of initiation that was demonstrated over 2,000 years ago.

Braden is an early Consciousness explorer

I first read Zero Point while living in Boulder in 1999 and have followed Greg's work since then. He has had an influence on my own work on consciousness and how we can learn to create wealth and live more fully by using our deeper conscious nature.

Braden's works, Zero Point and his other books, present a cohesive body of thought on the changes and transformations we are now experiencing.

This rapid shift, which Braden describes in this book, together with providing scientific evidence to back his findings, is bringing many people to realize that we have two choices - become more conscious, develop more sustainable approaches, learn to live in partnership with one another and the earth OR experience a potentially catechistic shift for which we are unprepared.

I highly recommend this book together with any of Braden's other books and audio programs. I have listened to many of the audio programs numerous times and find Gregg's insights to help explain the shift many of us are noticing, both culturally and in terms of the pace with which time, itself, is changing.

Zero-Point, together with The Lost Power of Prayer, are excellent places to begin your journey into Braden's body of work.

Very good book despite scientific lapses

Awakening to Zero point is a great book by Gregg Braden , a geologist, sacred journey guide and spiritual man. I have met Mr Braden in person and think he is a fabulous man, that really cares about the earth and with a profound intuitive insight regarding the changes that we are undergoing. The book is a collection of theories and ideas that attempt to bring together what many of us are feeling intuitively ( "things on earth are changing" and "the past of humanity is not as we thought" ) with some solid evidence and scientific fact. I think Gregg does a very good job at this and provides plenty of food for thought.

The science in the text can be definitely improved upon though, as has been pointed out by a few reviewers with a scientific background. As a former physicist i too found that some of the science in the book is approximative. Maybe gregg's science, although better than that of most new agers, is not as good as some of the people for which science is their daily occupation. I too had some slight uncomfortablness at some of the statements within the book, from a scientific prospective. However I would not for this reason throw out the baby with the bath water. Gregg's science might not be fool proof, but his his intuition surely is. I ultimately found this book very valuable. At least it is a movement in the right direction. Science and Spirit will soon be meeting, if humanity is to progress at all. Gregg has definitely put a very positive foot forward in this endevour as well as sharing of his experience and very positive essence in this text. A very worthwhile read.

A Correction - Not a review

A Reader wrote in a review of this book under the heading "Zero Point to this book, September 17, 2002" the following:

"The scientific explanation of absolute zero may blind the unscientific reader, who may not notice that "Zero Point" has absolutely no connection to absolute zero. (Absolutely zero connection, in fact.)"

As a Physicist, I must point out that this statement is not correct. The New Encyclopaedia Britannica (1990 edition (copyright 1989) Micropaedia Volume 12) defines "zero-point energy" as "vibrational energy that molecules retain even at the absolute zero of temperature." The encyclopaedia article also touches on the connection between the zero-point energy and the uncertainty principle of quantum mechanics.

I have not read Mr. Braden's book, so I cannot comment on whether or not his explanation of zero-point energy and absolute zero temperature is correct according to currently accepted scientific theories.

Also, since I am not reviewing the book, but Amazon.com requires a rating to post information in this review section, I applied the middle rating of 3 stars. Please ignore this rating since I have not read the book, and I am not rating the book.

I would also like to take this opportunity to point out a practical application of zero-point energy and zero-point fields that has been around for over 40 years in my area of expertise (Optical Physics) and that application is Optical Parametric Generation (OPG). OPG can only be understood from a quantum-mechanical point of view (as opposed to a classical physics point of view), and can be regarded as parametric amplification of the zero-point fluctuations of the electromagnetic field. Laser pumped optical parametric amplifiers and oscillators are widely used today as tunable sources of coherent radiation. However, unlike the "free energy" from the zero-point field desired for energy producing devices discussed in many books on the zero point field, the generation of tunable coherent radiation by an OPG requires the input energy of the laser pump, and the process is much less than 100% efficient in converting the laser pump energy into the energy of the parametrically generated radiation.

ZERO POINT FOR THIS BOOK-EDIT

Interesting book, but more interesting: A quick LOOK into the "ZERO POINT FOR THIS BOOK" (Sept. 17, 2002) yields the following insight; you be the judge: 1) Stating, "And Braden is even wrong when he says that the magnetic field is declining. The National Geophysical Data Center states that the Earth's magnetic field is: "actually higher than it has been for most of the last 50,000 years" But that's just scientists quoting facts. 2) The full quote from the NGDC.NOAA.GOV website reads, "However, the present dipole moment (a measure of how strong the magnetic field is) is actually higher than it has been for most of the last 50,000 years and the current decline could reverse at any time." 3) Physicsweb.org article 11 May 2006 "Geophysicists in the UK have used a mathematical model based on old ships' logbooks to show that the observed decline in the strength of the Earth's magnetic field may only be a recent phenomenon -- and not a fixed trend as commonly thought."

A scientific fact taken out of context (within one sentence even!) to justify a pre-drawn conclusion? I can't speak about Gregg Braden, but the 9-17-2002 work appears on the path of "corrupted with bias". YOU BE THE JUDGE. Or, as Buddha put it, "be a light unto yourself".

ambivalent-

just gotta say that this other reviewer, (san fran. sept 17th) deserves a pat on the back for writing the best piece of criticism I think I have seen at this site. I couldn't help but laugh at his pointed and true comments. well done!
i must say that if you approach a book like this from a mental perspective, that is what you are going to see. nothing here is necessarily proved or well supported, so if you are not prepared to take it on faith, you might as well leave it.
