This manual is jam-packed with carefully researched, fun-to-make projects that will give any doll?s house a truly authentic feel. The scene is set with a brief history of the 1930s in Britain and America, followed by the projects themselves, divided by room: the kitchen, the living room, the bedroom, and the foyer. Extensive details and practical advice are included on materials and equipment, templates and suppliers, and basic techniques. With so many wonderful ideas, this guide is the perfect resource for all miniatures enthusiasts.

Great guidance and inspiring ideas galore!

Like all Jane Harrop's books, this one gives clear, easy-to-follow directions for the mini maker who wants to do more modern minis than the usual Tudor, Victorian and Edwardian ones on offer. Though most definitely British, it's easy for Yanks to follow and the pix and projects are charming and come out well.

Thirties and Forties

This book is easy to follow and Jane Harrop has made the detail easy to understand, even for the beginner. The templates are all true to size and that makes for easy assembly, and the follow up for each project gives you a chance to make sure you have put it together correctly, although I can't say that mine look as professional as Janes.
I didn't move to the UK until the 1970's for eight years, but found that quite a few of the items were still being used even then. Those years made quite an impression on a lot of people and I think there are more and more miniaturists looking to that era.

interesting period details

I enjoyed this book because I've yet to seen one including much information on miniature decorating styles of the 1930's and 40's. Admittedly there are more wood crafts than I had hoped for, but the flavor of the book, the fun layout, and period details give one inspiration for creating their own unique projects.
