This vivid oral biography of
Elvis
Presley is based on the recollections of three members of the ?
Memphis
Mafia
,? the entourage who accompanied Elvis every day, from 1956 to his death in 1977. These were the men closest to Elvis, the ones who knew him best?Billy Smith, Elvis? first cousin; Marty Lacker, foreman of the Memphis Mafia; and Lamar Fike, who joined the army with Elvis. Together, they offer rare insights into the greatest legend of them all, from the phenomenal successes to the long, devastating decline. It is a uniquely revealing portrait of a tragic figure whose immense talent changed the course of American music and culture. Alanna Nash writes for The New York Times and Entertainment Weekly. She is the author of The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley.

Revelations from the Memphis Mafia
I've finished the book and can't help but want to know more.
I cried in the last few chapters - especially for Billy Smith. I'm devastated about what I now know about
Elvis
- reading this book validated some of the things I'd heard and provided the details that made me feel like I was actually there.
I'm glad I have read it and I think its a must read for anyone who feels a connection to Elvis Presley. If you're like me and you want to know who this man really was and why the world still loves him, buy this book.
I will be forever changed by this book, hearing his music will never be the same again, I can't describe the emotional reaction I have had to this book. Thank you Alanna for being brave enough to put this together for all of us.

Elvis book I couldn't put down!
This is one
Elvis
book that I couldn't put down!! Any Elvis fan should have this one in their collection. Filled with all kinds of details...although always remember you can't believe everything that you read. It is filled with accounts from members of the
Memphis
Mafia
and explains a lot of regular day life about Elvis.
Wish it was longer
I've read a lot of
Elvis
books, but I would say this is one of my faves. I don't know if all of it is true, but I just loved how detailed it was. I couldn't stop reading it, and I learned some things I didn't know before. Yes, some of it was unkind and gossipy, but I enjoyed it.

Elvis Memphis Mafia
I just finished reading
Elvis
& The
Memphis
Mafia
all i can say is this book gives you a better understanding of Elvis and what he had to deal with. From reading this book i am surprised he lived as long as he did with all the pressure put on him with no escape. All the people he had depending on him and he felt he was responsible for everyone no matter how much they hurt him. Great book every true Elvis fan needs this in there library.
