"The fact that I had managed to become a health-care analyst for a U.S. Senator at the age of twenty-six still surprised me, and I lived in fear that someone would realize how ridiculous it was to have given me this authority and fire me on the spot."

Idealistic, dedicated to her job, and a bit of a hypochondriac, Samantha Joyce has a very busy life. Working a seventy-hour week and mastering the details of the latest health-care reform bill, while making time to celebrate obscure but significant holidays such as the twenty-ninth anniversary of The Partridge Family series finale, leaves little time for romance. But then she meets Aaron Driver, the handsome speechwriter for a rival senator. Sammy falls for him hard, despite the fact that his ambitious boss is the emblem of everything she hates about congressional hardball. When you work on Capitol Hill, even dating becomes a political act.

Try as she might, Sammy isn't the sort of person who can keep from speaking her mind, no matter how much trouble it causes. Whether she's trying to thwart a filibuster, detox a constituent, or recover from mistakenly emailing a racy message to over two hundred of Capitol Hill's political elite, Sammy stays true to herself, foibles and all. And before she knows it, she finds herself at the heart of a romantic tangle, a major showdown over health care reform, and the highest-stakes contest of all?a presidential election campaign.

Kristin Gore is a keen observer of politics with a sharp ear for comedy, and her first novel is a triumph?a captivating, hilarious page-turner with a loveable heroine who will charm readers on both sides of the aisle.

what donna from west wing might have written!

For anyone who is familiar with the west wing, I suspect this is much like reading an autobiography of Donna. Like Donna, Sammy is dedicated to her boss who is a democratic leader, her wit will make you laugh out loud, and her folly will have you rolling on the floor laughing. Loved every second of this book and couldn't put it down.

My very favorite read!

This book is literally laugh out loud funny. I was actually sad to finish it. And, it does not stray to one political side or another in case anyone out there is weary of politics. I

Sammys Hill

I read and thoroughly enjoyed reading Sammys Hill and Sammys House. As someone who worked 16 years in and around the Hill and Washington, I found them entertaining and enlightening. Have recommended to several twentyish types who come to me wanting to hear war stories about my previous careers in government and politics.

Fun "Chick Lit" Beach Read

Samantha "Sammy" Joyce is an advisor to the junior Senator from Ohio and is working a fast paced schedule on Capitol Hill hoping that no one clues in on the fact that she is a clutz and believes herself wholly inept for the job. She is tasked with working with another Senator's staff on a health care reform bill that is close to her heart. She is warned by her boss to beware the other Senator and his staff - so Sammy - true to form - falls in love with the senior speech writer. One calamity after another befalls Sammy and all the while she is trying to solve life's questions about love and career while working toward serving the public.

This is a fun and silly book about Capitol Hill, the vultures that work there, and one young girl trying to stay afloat while keeping her ideals in check. It is completely unbelievable in terms of the gaffes that Sammy gets away with and how unprofessional she often acts. It is also somewhat frustrating that the author portrays Sammy as a female with a great job who is obviously smart, but has zero self respect or self confidence. It's major flaw is the main character - who is majorly flawed. But if read as a fun beach read, this novel is entertaining and humorous. There are even portions that wil make you laugh out loud. But do not look to this as a serious work of fiction. If read in that light it will be a bitter disappointment.
