Much better and accurate than "Aztec"

Madariaga does know what he's talking about, unlike Gary Jennings in "Aztec". Madariaga is a renowned historian who takes advantage of his knowledge and his writing skills to give us an epic novel of the Mexican Conquest. It traces the parallel lives of Xuchitl, a princess from Texcoco, and Alonso de Manrique, a well-to-do young man from Spain. Madariaga portraits the social context in which their lives develop. The Ancient Mexican culture is fascinatingly depicted, as well as the Spain of the Inquisition and the war against the Moors. Religion, politics and social situations paint a broad canvass in which the love story evolves. Alonso goes to Mexico with Cortes, helping him conquer what is now Mexico. He and Xuchitl fall in love instantly and, of course, that love is difficult but passionate. Madariaga's images are powerful, the tone epic and the result, a great read for anybody. The characters are unforgettable and the book has a bright light and colors that make it a grand novel.

El Corazon de Piedra Verde (The Jade Heart)

One of the best written novels about the conquest of Mexico by the Spaniards. This book is witty, well researched, full of anecdotes and details of the life of the Aztecs and their customs and traditions. A marvelous reading!

Un verdadero tesoro para los que amamos la Historia. El corazón de piedra verde, Malinche y El Dios de la LLuvia llora sobre Méxicon son verdaderas joyas literarias sobre la epopeya que significó la conquista de México.
En un lenguaje sencillo sin muchos adornos el autor nos mantiene en vilo narrando los acontecimientos que marcaron de manera indeleble el futuro del nuevo mundo. Choque de culturas y creencias. Muy bueno.

Uno de mis preferidos

Esta es una novela para disfrutar a cualquier edad. La leí en la adolescencia y ahora nuevamente. Y hoy me parece aún más audaz y extraordinaria que cuando la leí hace años. Su autor conoce y retrata con mano maestra el mundo español durante la época de la conquista del Nuevo Mundo. Más fabuloso aún es su conocimiento del mundo precolombino americano.
