Misconceptions
Okay. First off. My family and I have been flying remote control planes and
heli
copters since I could first hold a control box.
Second... this product REALLY is a good product... no matter what the morons out there say. Flying an RC helo... no matter HOW small or big is a VERY VERY VERY difficult task to do! It's not NEARLY as easy as it looks on the TV. It's a commercial people! Since when has the TV EVER told us the truth?!
There is a MAJOR learning curve when flying an RC helicopter... and even a veteran can have trouble with a new helicopter (you have to adjust to every helicopter you fly!).
I get so frustrated by people crying over how the "helicopter is uncontrollable" or how it "will only go up and down and no matter what I do, I can't control it's left and right movement".
It can take YEARS to master the art of flying one of these things. It's not something you can do right away usually. Specifically... these helicopters don't necessarily fly "forward" either. Technically the body usually cants toward one side and then flies forward in that direction.
Anyway... this toy is exactly that. A toy. It's not a professional RC helicopter that you can mount a camera onto and take pictures of landscape with. It's a toy. If it doesn't function EXACTLY as you like it (yes... there
may
be a delayed response because it is run off of infrared technology and not radio frequencies)... so what?! It's not that expensive. In fact... it's rather cheap for an RC helo. People... please come to your senses.
This is a GREAT helicopter for someone just looking to take a step into the hobby. It's cheap, pretty darned durable, and it flies alright too. I'd recommend this to ANY parent looking to give their kid an intro to RC helos and wants to start them out small (it teaches them how to handle the precise controls that a full-size helo uses... and those are even more touchy than this thing...). It's a great product at a great price.

great fun helicopter
we bought a Sharper Image
heli
copter for our son for Christmas and it broke on Christmas Day. This Spinmaster Air Hog
Havoc
Helicopter was our replacement and we have had great fun with it. It was well rated on amazon.com so we agree with all the other people that it is a good toy to buy! Our five year-old has had GREAT time with it!
Awesome creative toy
My only negative comment would be that the
heli
copter is hard to stear and maintain direction. Still a great purchase. Has provided many hours of entertainment. Even our cats like it.
addictive!
Its funny, when you think of purchasing this for a child and find out that the child's father plays with it more than the kid!! Its a fun toy, better to be used outdoors than indoors as inside it could tip over stuff from the shelf or the souvenier showcase.
The toy itself is not exactly the epitome of quality manufacturing, the design is good and the controls on the remote are pretty relevant and effective. But the problem lies in durability, as it does not last for a long time, but then again you get what you pay for. In this case, its not all that bad though, with some proper TPM, this toy can be made to last a good duration of time and is a lot of fun for the whole family while also an excellent gift item to boot.

A nice kids toy, but little more.
The Air Hog
Havoc
is a tiny toy, very lightweight, rather durable, made of foam plastic and controlled by an infrared light link (not radio control). The controls are rudimentary - collective (controls rotor speed rather than pitch), and cyclic (rotates the nose right and left, but omits forward/back except the bit linked to right/left motion). The result is a difficult to control craft that must be used indoors only (can't handle even light air currents) and not in bright light (interferes with the infrared controller). Fun, but for a former
heli
copter crewchief, disappointing in the lack of control that causes frequent crashes, and I can't imagine how many "takes" the TV ads needed to show aerobatics and maneuverability.
