The secret life of...

In the dark hours of the evening, creatures roam seeking out a way of life. They are scary and care little for others not of their kind, they are... the night crew at the supermarket. Throw in some vampires and a young would-be Indiana writer and mix with Christopher Moore's light humor and you have a successful book. Tommy Flood hooks up with involuntary vampire Jody and the exploits begin, along with the bloodless bodies that keep showing up around their home. I especially enjoyed the Animals and their ventures in the Safeway during that 12-8am shift where you can refine your skills at turkey bowling. There's also the body in the freezer and the Emperor of San Francisco with his cohorts Bummer and Lazarus. It's a fun filled romp through San Francisco and a lesson in what to do if your in love with a vampire, not to mention a handy way to deal with your snapping turtles.

Overall, great book, it's one of those that flows so evenly and quickly you will go through it almost too fast. Highly recommended and thoroughly enjoyable.

Bloodsuckingly great!

Ah another day another Christopher Moore book finished. I actually read this one on Sunday but I'm just getting around to posting about it now. My brain is a little fried from the heat wave rolling through the tri-state area so this is probably going to be pretty short.

Bloodsucking Fiends is the story of an average 20-something year old girl who gets attacked late one night on her way home from work in San Francisco and just like most people she wakes up two days later to realize that she's turned into a vampire. Jody then begins a quest to find out why she was attacked/transformed, who did it, and who can she get to help her during the day.

C. Thomas Flood (Tommy to his friend) is a 19 year old from Indianna who moved to San Francisco to pursue his career as a writer only to find out that moving to the city with no job and no money might not have been the best idea. Thanks to the Emperor of San Francisco, a homeless man that I first read about in A Dirty Job, Tommy is able to get a job as the night manager of the local Safeway. While working Tommy then bumps into Jody in the parking lot and is instantly in love.

Jody sees in Tommy a possible person that she can trust and has him help her get an apartment where she can safely stay during the daytime and the two of them then begin a very interesting relationship. Around this time dead bodies start to pop up drained of blood and Detective Rivera (from Practical Demonkeeping and A Dirty Job) and his partner Nick Cavuto begin to investigate the case. This begins Jody and Tommy's quest to find the other vampire who created her and for some reason is killing all these people and framing them.

Like all of Moore's books Bloodsucking Fiends is incredibly funny, at times pretty dark, and overall definitely worth a read. Unlike a lot of his book it had a pretty happy ending too. I'm not saying that the others don't just that this one was happier than most.

I'm starting to really realize that I should be reading these in order to get the most out of them and yesterday I picked up Fluke so I can start at the beginning.

if i cant put it down then its worth 5 stars..

this story was very clever and very funny... i will admit to it not being as funny as lamb, however, this book has satisfied that deep, dark, sex driven craving for a life in the night and making it with a beautiful women who just happens to be a vampire. the ending was the classic thing for tommy to have done, i almost peed in my pants when i sw what mr. moore had done. tommy is a young boy from a small town in indiana and he decides to move out to the city to become a writer. along the way he finds a home amongst chinese immigrants who want to mary him, a job a safeway with a crew of crazy individuals who crazy things to themselves and to tommy, an emperor of san francisco (also the protector of mexico)and a cop duo who remind me of dragnet. this book was very funny and very thought out. it is a love story and an adventure one at that. jody has been given these awesome powers and she must learn to harness the powers in order to survive while maintaing a semi normal social life with a boy who craves more sex....wait a second, never mind...he's 19 years old..if you like fun and moore fun then pick this book up before you get drained on any others..

Incredibly Funny Read

This was the first Christopher Moore book I read and it turned me in to some sort of junky. I mean I went out and bought all his books after reading it, none of them disappoint.

It takes place in San Francisco and it has Emperor Norton in it, you gotta love that, and I really don't want to give the plot away. Read it.

HILARIOUS

An absolutely perfect summer read. Chris Moore's humor is wonderful; witty, quick, sarcastic. Highly recommended.
