Fabulous, full of societal truths--a MUST READ for everyone!
When I heard that Justice Thomas was writing an autobiography, I was dubious as to its slant and political push--but am very happy to say that it is wonderful! I had no idea he had to live through the things he did (he never used any of his upbringing as a crutch or bonus for who he is and how he got there). His life is one of troubles, successes through hard work, introspective growth, trials (both legal and life) and this story tells about how these things all came together for good in his life.
I believe truly that his story needs to be told again and again--for people to glean motivation, hope, and knowlege of the realities of life--to give people that tools it takes to make your life your own, and to live it to the fullest.
This is one amazing man. We are a lucky country to have him.

An Inspiration
Clarence Thomas has proven that someone with his background can achieve the American dream. He should be the role model for his race.
The rest of the story....
I was excited when I learned that Justice Thomas had penned his
memoir
s because I had always wanted to know what happened to him since leaving St. John Vianney and becoming a Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. I was a classmate at St. John's, one year behind Clarence. There were only 60 students in the seminary at the time; just nine in my class. I can remember those days, sometimes fondly, other times with melancholy. Mostly, I remember Clarence befriending a young freshman and including me when we were selected for intramural sports teams or work crews. I can remember his broad smile, big laugh and understanding character throughout those impressionable few years. I never knew of his per

al pain and angst about racial sensitivity because he was always kind and understanding with me. Clarence's book, "My
Grandfather
's Son", gave me the rest of the story. Not unlike most of us, as well as other important figures in American history, Justice Thomas has a personal story to tell about how his principals and values were forged. I can personally testify about the young man I only knew for a few years as Clarence. He was smart, friendly, and kind. He had a mean slam dunk and a powerful over the net volleyball smash. Most of all he had a good heart. Congratulations on the book Clarence. You've done us all at St. John's proud!

Great Book
This is a really good book about an amazing life story. The story of his confirmation battle also shows the liberals for the low-lifes they really are.
A good man
I loved the book. This is a man who has been vilified by the press just because he is a black conservative. My image of Justice Thomas from seeing him on TV during his confirmation hearings and during the 2000 elections was completely wrong. He frankly appeared to be a dim bulb. After hearing him speak, meeting him, and reading his book, my opinion has completely changed. He is intelligent, witty, warm, and engaging. The book is a touching story of family sacrifice and dedication...and ultimately appreciation for that from Justice Thomas.
