Absolutely Outstanding

This is an extremely easy read about a girl finding out who she is and where she has come from. You won't be able to put this book down! A perfect summer read and recommended book to everyone!

I loved this book from the first page to the last

I enjoyed this book so much that i bought (with my own money) 28 copies for my entire 8th grade class to read. The class really enjoyed it too. I was a bit concerned about what some parents may say but the only parent who said anything was one who read it from cover to cover in one weekend when her daughter brought it home. This is a book that is recommended for this age group and I can see why because it has enough emotion to capture their attention. This book stuck with me for at least 3 months. I can't wait for the movie.

Excellent Read

I'm not a fan of books that have an overpowering hook. This one does and it works, even though it drags on the storyline from time to time. I'm talking about the bees. Read past them and you will be transported into the world of a teenage girl caught in the turmoil of both her dysfunctional life and the coming of age of the civil rights' movement. It is masterfully told and written simply, effortlessly. It's story telling at it's finest. Lilly is the main character yet she is not the most important character. She's just the thread that holds the story together. The supporting cast of ladies (who Are the story), her mother, the town folks, the cops, the bullies and bigots, and the dad combine to form a memorable story told artfully. You should read it.
