Images Linux without hassles
This product will
image
and restore a Linux (Ubuntu in my case) system without hassles. The restore works even if the target drive is smaller than the original. I restored a 160 GB image to an 80 GB drive without problem. I could not get Symantec Ghost images to boot when restored. An add on for Bart PE is included on the CD.
The instructions for using the Bart PE add on are confusing. They say that the custom install will set up the files. I did not see that option under custom setup. I did run the BartPE setup program from the CD and the files were copied to my hard drive. The second BartPE folder name has to be changed to
Acronis
and that folder and its subfolder (Files) are copied to the pebuilder/addons section. The instructions are online. The program is located under System/Storage inside BartPE.
I tried various programs to image Linux and the best free one I found was Clonezilla. The only negative it has (at this moment) is that you cannot restore to a smaller hard drive. The work around is to shrink the partition on the source drive before making the image (a hassle and a little dangerous). So I bought Acronis and it worked.

Cloned Windows XP OS perfectly
Just bought this product a while ago due to concern that my hard drive was failing and also because I wanted to get a larger hard drive. The program partitioned the new drive and cloned the old one (with Windows XP SP3) perfectly.
The new drive runs faster, since the swap file isn't carried over from the old drive. I've been using the new drive ever since. The best thing is that I didn't have to re-register any of my software (including Adobe CS).
I'm keeping a clone of this drive as well as incremental backups in case of future issues. At least I know I always have another hard drive to fall back on. I'd say that creating a drive
image
on a second drive is the best way to back up your system and settings in case you are worried that you'll lose everything.
I like the fact that you can back up user settings and e-mail separately. You can also run a program to "try" new software and then restore your system to the state before the new software was installed.
The one thing I wish this product offered is Universal Restore so that you can create a drive image so you can use the new hard drive on any computer. The company sales rep said they might offer it to

users as an option in a future release.

Met all my expectations
The installation went well (Windows VISTA). Running the initial full backup while scheduling incremental backups was very straight forward. I'll probably get another copy and external drive for my wife's computer.
Easy to Use
This product worked perfectly with no training, just follow the easy to understand dialogs and you have a perfect

backup of your system, not just the data.
