Great job Microsoft!
Just learning to use
Microsoft
Expression
Web
now, but seems to be an somewhat easy transition from FrontPage. I also bought the book "Using Microsoft Expression Web" by Jim Cheshire and reading it and also using the tutorials on his website, [...] has really helped me find the little "tricks". I highly recommend using Microsoft Expression Web!
Significant evolution of Microsoft's web design software
Having used this software for only a few months (trial period included) I have found it to be an evolution of MS Front Page 2003 with some of the convenient pre-packaged functionality removed, but far more powerful support for style sheets and styles in general, included.
Expression
Web
also unobstrusively guides the designer towards standards-compliant design.
I am still learning the software, but can say that despite some of the missing bits from FP2003, this is a vast improvement. The interface is similar to FP2003 in many respects, so it is easy for a FP2003 user to pick up EW and start using it right away.
An excellent product.

Definitely worth it!
I've been a self-made
web
designer for over 7 years now. I had used Front Page and when
Microsoft
came out with
Expression
Web I decided to go for it and purchased the "
upgrade
". While there's a definite learning curve, I can see that this new editing software is well worth the money spent. It comes with a tutorial - and if you search there are other free tutorials out there too. I highly recommend going through the tutorial, as it will give the basics. Right now I'm designing my first site with it. I am having a lot of fun discovering all the attributes it has. If you are a web designer, then I recommend this program!

Wpression Web Upgrade
While EW is very powerful when it comes to CSS, there are issues with the
upgrade
in my opinion. If you upgrade from Frontpage and have used themes, I still haven't figured out how to change or remove the theme. This includes being unable to edit a link list in the theme header. In Frontpage, you fust went to the "tree" of the
web
site and added, removed, or updated the information or pages.IF you like Frontpage then I see no good reason to upgrade. FP is easier to use and great for the non-professional. I sold my registered copy of FP when I bought EWQ and now wish I had not. EW is for the semi-professional and professional webmaster. It isnot user friendly to the newbie. I have 4 webs and can use it, but miss the simplicity of FP 2003.

Better than FrontPage but ...
Yes, EW is a fairly significant improvement over FP which I never could get used to except as an expensive editor for xml files. CSS support is great and so is the ability to hyperlink to JavaScript routines right from the code view. However, I feel that the most essential feature is missing and that is the Document Outline in a tree view as it is available in Visual Studio 2005. No, the so-called Quick Tag Selector just is not that useful. Most of us visualize hierarchical structures in a vertical tree view, not in one single horizontal row. Likewise, there is no such document view for JavaScript files and what
web
developer does not use these?
Yes, I will likely
upgrade
eventually but it's a shame that such a long-awaited upgrade falls short in couple of critical features. I read elsewhere that
Microsoft
's rationale is that EW is for web designers while VS is for developers, but I do not buy this at all. Many, if not all, of us serve both roles throughout the life of a web project.
