Excellent Quality
I have had a number of HP
deskjet
s over the years...this one lives up to the excellent quality HP is known for. Black text prints super-fast, and
color
s are vibrant. I printed a black and white photo using HP Premium Plus Photo paper, and a photographer friend upon seeing it, asked when I had gotten a darkroom. Highly recommend this product.
HP DeskJet 6940 Color Printer
I'm very satisfied with the
printer
. Excellent print quality in both black and
color
. Easy to set up and use. Excellent overall quality.
Great photos and graphics but gulps ink
Pros: Excellent graphics and photo quality, super-fast, good-quality draft printing, rarely jams (I re-use paper all the time), black (not dark gray) text
Cons: Small paper tray, drinks up ink like water, ink cartridges way too small and expensive
After my beloved HP 990c died, which printed absolutely beautiful graphics and photographs, I searched long and hard for a replacement
printer
. I do a lot of desktop publishing, and the graphics quality is just, if not more, important to me than photo quality. On the recommendation of a salesman (stupid!), I purchased an Epson. Never again! What a piece of junk! I also tried an HP PhotoSmart printer, which printed great photos but just so-so graphics. Then I purchased the HP
6940
and have been very happy with it. It gave me the excellent graphics quality of my old 990c. For you photo buffs, sometimes I print 8x10 black and white portrait photos, and for years I have been frustrated trying to get "darkroom quality" on my inkjets. I tried using PhotoShop and PhotoShop Elements to tweak it here and there, with unsatisfactory results. It was the same with the 6940 until I printed them using the HP PhotoSmart Premier software that came with the printer. What a difference! I didn't have to change any settings or anything -- it just printed the B&W's much better!
Now for the bad news: when I have a particular job to do, the end result is usually printed elsewhere on a professional machine. However, I do lots of draft printing to check different page designs, etc. before I consider the job final. On a 5-page, double-side printed playbill, I went through at least SIX cartridges of ink!! I'd be part way through a job, and the printer tells me I'm low on ink already! Purchasing the 3-combo pack at Costco cost me about $72 x 2 = $144!! That's ridiculous! That's why printers, even good ones, are so incredibly cheap nowadays -- I've almost paid twice the price of the printer in ink cartridges in less than a six-month period!
Because of limited office space, I just purchased a Canon Pixma MP 830, which is an all-in-one. It has gotten very good reviews, and the ink cartridges are bigger and cheaper. Wish me luck!
