I LOVE MINE!

GREAT PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE. I RECOMMEND IT FOR PET DANDER AND DUST. IT HELPS ME BREATHE BETTER AT HOME AND I'VE HAD FEWER SINUS INFECTIONS!

Effective for cost

It's always hard to tell with these things because you have to monitor the effects over time. I do think my indoor allergies are much better with this around- and I probably overstretch the room area it should be used in.
This little product was a total life-saver, however, when my neighbors who share a wall with me recently did some contruction and painting. This little filter took my apartment from migraine-zone to fume-free in a few hours.

Very good air cleaner~!

Noise Level: High setting is quite noisy, although I put it to high during the day. Medium setting is not very loud - it provides a nice amount of white noise for sleeping. Low setting is very quiet.
I have one cat and always wake up with a stuffy nose. Since I have been using this, my nose has cleared up quite a bit. I am hoping that over time, this will go away entirely. It is most effective when it is always left on! Filters are less expensive than other air purifiers.

works but not effective

i bought this air filter because dust was prevalent in my small room, and i was tired of constantly wiping away new layers of dust that would form after each week. with that, i thought having an air filter would mitigate the problem. and so i bought this hamilton beach product because of the good price, simplicity in design, and consistent high ratings from fellow reviewers. however, after using this product on a pretty frequent basis now for a few months, i have to say i am rather disappointed with its performance. out of 5 stars, i would give it 3.5 stars. while it does attract dust on to its filter(say at the end of each month), it does a poor job overall of sucking in air/dust, even at the highest setting(high/med/low), and thus not effective in the circulation/recycle of air. the product hasn't really made a dent in terms of the dust in my room. the idea behind this product is pretty simple as it is based on a fan spinning, and it tries to suck in air at one end(side) and blows it out the other(top). but all it does really is blow air out on top like a fan. it is very similar to that of a computer fan and how dust collects on the grill of the system after a period of time. all in all, i can't say it doesn't work, but the effectiveness is minimal. hope this helps.

Worked ok but not enough.

We purchased model 4381 because it used a highly rated 3M filter and it was inexpensive enough to test out in our bedroom. Although the pkg says the filter "Lasts Up To 120 Days," in one month our filter gets so full of grey pet dander and dust you can't see the pleates in the filter. We keep on highest speed but drop it to low in order to sleep in the same room.
After reading reviews saying the best option is to get a whole house filtration unit professionally installed I did the next best thing. I taped a top rated 3M 1200 20x20 filter on a 20" 3-speed box fan and run it constantly. These filters only cost $10.99 a piece but it also fills up in about 30-days. My forced air furnace also has a top rated electrostatic filter, but that only runs when the thermostat kicks it on to heat or cool the house. For the Hamilton Beach 4381 I find it cheaper to buy the 3M 1200 20x20 filter and cut it into four replacement filters instead of paying $12 for the one suggested. Even with all three filters we live with allergic reactions daily and our two beloved dogs!
