I'm Misery's number 1 fan!

This movie is a pure classic. There really isn't much more to say. It has excellent acting, and edge-of-your-seat story, AND it's based on a book by Stephen King. What more could you ask for? Kathy Bates plays her character to its fullest. While she starts out as an excentric heroine, she gradually becomes one of the most terrifying beings ever to grace the screen. At times, you almost have to question whether she is insane, or just depraved and sadistic. Her self-invented slang is so hilarious, it'll have you quoting it for life.

The most eerie thing about this movie is how every act of evil performed by Bates is (in her mind) an act of love. She really cares for her "special guest", and wants him to feel the same way. That's all she really wants. One thing that really freaked me out is that at the same time that I rented this movie, I rented "Diary of a Mad Black Woman." There is a reference to this movie's most frightening sequences. (Please keep in mind that I do not recommend "Diary". It was one of the most boring and pointless movies I have ever seen.)

EVEN BETTER THAN THE BOOK!

I love this film! It really does justice to Stephen King's novel (which I just Finished recently). I say that this is better than the book because it is alot less bloodier. The story works alot better without most of the gore. I still would have liked to seen the scene when Annie uses a lawnmower to kill a young policeman. I would not have laughed at it. It would have been nice to have it included as an extra.

Good Version

After reading the book, I decided to rent to movie version. Overall I was pleased. The interaction with Bates and Caan was terrific in what amounts to a 2 person play for the most part. Bates was fantastic in her mad role. They did tone down the gore a bit though. In the book Caan's character loses a thumb and a foot. Good acting, great direction make this a must see movie.

The acting is great and the suspense is great

This film is overall great from begging to end. It's one of the best adapted books to screen movies. It's one of the best suspense movies out there and has one of the best villians ever. Kathy Bates is great and she deserved her oscer and all the other actors do a great job. The story is very suspensfull and will have you on the edge of your seat. Overall it's a must see on a cold winters night.

Dare I say, it was not as good as the book?

The problem in making a movie from a book like Misery is that the fans of the book have our own ideas as to what Annie Wilkes would look like, sound like and act like. They could never cast an actress that would compete with the character that we have all envisioned when reading King's book. Kathy Bates did a phenomenal job of portraying this character, but she just can't frighten me like the Annie Wilkes that I envisioned while reading King's novel.
Overall, this is a movie worth seeing, but I think that people who never read the book will enjoy the movie a bit more.
