CHRIST THE LORD OUT OF EGYPT

I found this book very interesting. Anne Rice did an excellent job in bring Jesus to life as a little boy with many questions. Just like so many little boys, but this little boy was so different and Rice made him so believable in her interpretation of what she thought he would be like.
All my life I have felt especially close to my Lord Jesus and this book made me feel even closet. Anne Rice is a compelling author. I loved her book FEAST OF ALL SAINTS, and I was not disappointed with this book.

Christ the Lord, Out of Egypt

Incredible piece of historical fiction. The research and detail is impressive. Anne Rice, though an unlikely author for such a work, has done a most excellent job of presenting an extremely plausible account of Jesus' childhood based on what we know of the scriptures and history. It does utilize both Catholic and Protestant sources, and therefore may be troubling for some, but it is worth the read just to get the rich detail of life during this period of history.

Another great!

I loved this book! Even though this is a "story" that most of us know, I found it to be a real page-turner that I couldn't put down until I finished it.

Classic Rice

This is classic Anne Rice at her best - she creates characters we care about and paints us a vivid view of a historical snapshot in time. I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed her other books and for the same reasons.

Jesus At 7 Years of Age?

What were the experiences of Jesus like as a seven year old boy? What was he thinking about the things that he saw going on around him? Did he have insights that surprised himself? In what ways was he growing in his understanding of his incredible, unique identity?

Obviously, we don't really know the answers to those questions, they haven't been given to us. But Anne Rice gives a compelling, fair, touching, respectful fictional account of how it might have happened.

Rice makes an interesting decision to tell the story with young Jesus, himself, as the narrator. If I had to guess, without reading the book, I would have thought that might not be a very good idea, but once again, my uninformed guess would have been wrong--that's the third time this week, darn it! It turns out to work very well.

Rice has done a thorough job of researching the historical milieu. The pictures that she paints are vivid and memorable; and the details are accurate. Rice also read widely and critically among New Testament theologians--that, alone, could give you a headache--and so she is well informed and crafts the character of Jesus in a convincing way.

As a Christian, I am sure I would have disliked this novel if it had been another attempt to discredit and demean Jesus. But it's not. Rice had a religious conversion experience prior to writing the novel--which she writes about in the "author's note"--and I greatly appreciate that this was written by someone who loves and respects Jesus.
