"It's the privilege of youth...."
Finally..the DVD release of a movie that should be in everyones movie library. Watching my VHS version last weekend I noticed some 'jumping' in the picture where the boys were digging up Dom. "Oh no," I cried, "this video is just about worn." "Of course it is," replied my husband, "You've watched the darn thing at least 60 times!" He's right, I'm almost embarassed to say. Maybe it's a girl thing, but I still cry at the end when Dorman says, "Have a nice life."
I say ditto to all the previous reviews. There are times when every detail that makes a movie a movie come together to make the PERFECT movie. This is one of those times. Music, script, acting, direction, casting...superb! The DVD is on order. Until then I won't feel so guilty about watching the VHS until it rips apart in my VCR.
Now all I need to complete my happiness is a CD release of all the music from this classic movie. Am I asking too much?

It's about damn time!
The essential road trip loaded with Shiner beer, bottle rockets, "rattlers", Dom, sky diving and "Where's your car?.... You're drinking it!"
I found Chato Ortegas!
This movie has been a favorite of mine since I first ran across it in the late eighties. I have shared my copy with all my friends so they would be able to experience one the best all around movies I have seen. The script is very well written and delivered, the cinematography is excellent (the fireworks battle with the allusion to vietnam is superb), and the musical score can give you goosebumps. On a trip through west Texas on I-10 I happened to glance off the highway, saw a dilapidated building about 100 yards from the road and immediately recognized it Chato Ortegas, the bar which was one of the road trip goals. How many times do you have to watch a movie to recognize a building like that with just a glimpse? Several. And as far as this movie goes, everytime is a rewarding experience.

Big Fandango
THE best coming of age movie ever made; best soundtrack, story, characters, and all set in "The Great State of Texas". This is what pure joy looks like. I wanna watch it over and over again.
AAANGELS!!!!!!!!!
More than a cult classic...
Back in the '70s when I was in college in Texas, my friends and I made several road trips like the one in this movie. While the movie provides high hilarity, it also has a poignant love story, great acting, and a truly original scam to wrap it up. If you haven't seen it, check it out and spread the word. Finally, "Have a nice life."
