The first in a triology,,,excellent book, couldn't put it down
Daggone it, should have waited for all three
First off, I'm a big fan of Nora Roberts's writing, in general. That probably skews my review. However, I have disliked some stuff she has written, so this isn't a blind recommendation.
For the overview: this is paranormal romance. Three boys - most likely relatives - are tied to a demon who wants to wreak havoc. These boys - men - spend their lives containing the havoc and trying to find a way to stop it.
After 20 some years of this hold play, something changes: the players. Suddenly, there are three women in on the action. Of course, since this is romance, there will be three full romances. This
book
is the first in the
trilogy
.
N.R. is famous for her trilogies, and for the most part, I really enjoy them. This is no different. I love the way she writes both male and female characters, and her plots, though not exactly fresh, still read like something new.
The only thing I found disappointing in this book is the finale of it. There really isn't one. In the Three Sisters trilogy (probably the next most popular paranormal fiction series of hers, though she has so many!), each book had an established battle at its conclusion. This book really lacks that, I think. There is a "battle", but it's more like something that should have happened somewhere in the middle of a book. Not at the conclusion.
For me, I wish I had waited for all three to come out, because I think that book three is gonna kick serious bootie.

Fantastic New Trilogy
COURTESY OF CK2S KWIPS AND KRITIQUES
Caleb, Fox and Gage, best friends, sneak off to Pagan Stone, a forbidden spot in the woods to celebrate their shared tenth birthday. They will soon discover why it was forbidden to visit this terrible place, as an innocent oath meant to bond them as
blood
brothers
calls up a great evil. An evil that will plague their town of Hawkins Hollow every
seven
years on the seventh day of the seventh month.
Now as they approach their 31st birthdays, they realize that the evil grows more powerful upon each return and this is their last chance to stop it.
First in a new
trilogy
by Nora Roberts, Blood Brothers grips you and won't let you go. I would say it won't let you go until the end of the
book
, but I'm still feeling its clawing grip as I impatiently await The Hollow coming out in May.
I love it when Roberts delves into the paranormal and spooky. Even though it's billed as a romance, I felt the romantic aspect played a somewhat supporting role in this book. The romance gave the reader some much needed break from the delicious tension of the supernatural and was decadently palpable in and of itself. The relationship between Caleb and Quinn simmered until it sizzled.
The town of Hawkins Hollow is more a character in the story than a place setting. The deep history of the town takes us back to the Puritans and its founders, providing centuries of back-story to play with. Small towns with a deep past are my favorite background for a book like this. There are so many layers and possibilities as this trilogy unfolds.
As I've come to expect from Nora Roberts, her female characters are strong and multi-dimensional. That's not to say the ladies don't have their struggles or weaknesses, but each of them shows courage and it's always a pleasure to read a story with women who work through their fears and support one another.
I also appreciated how well developed the characters were in this book as a whole, considering there were so many that played an important role.
My only complaint is that it ended too soon. Unlike any of the author's other trilogies the conclusion of this book had a more unfinished feel to it. Almost as if it was merely pause in the story. I was hungry for more. I definitely wouldn't have been satisfied by it on its own.

Another Excellent Nora Roberts Book
I am a huge fan of Nora Roberts - she lets me get away with reading romance novels - that arn't too, well you know, girl meets boy, the guy is always perfect & and never has committment issues they live happily ever after BLAH BLAH BLAH....those kind of romance
book
s. Nora always includes 'real' life relationships - Strong lead women characters, committment phobic guys (like in real life) etc etc.
Blood
Brothers
was a very good book - not her best...but like others could not put it down until I was done (middle of January) and then realized that the 2nd one doesn't come out until MAY!!!!! Grrrr.
Anyway - I am always happy when I pick up a Nora Roberts book. She never disappoints me as the reader. I am a BIG fan of all her paranormal books - never got to 'into' just the romance ones. I would recommend this to others out there who like the SCI-FI side of Nora.

Patiently waiting for more
My first Nora Roberts
book
so I was surprised by the juvenile fantasies of love, but the plot was very intriguing, so I persevered. Definitely will read more Nora to see if her other books are on this same level of everything conveniently falling into place.
