Great reference book

Many of the recipies are high in fat and old-fashioned (I guess that's why they call it the Family cookbook). However, it is invaluable to me and my roomate because it has photographs of things like "properly whipped, under whipped, overwhipped" cream, and "rare, medium rare, etc" steaks. My roomate and I sit down and read it like a textbook. We've improved our cooking greatly because this is the ONE BOOK that explains WHY you're doing what you're doing. Why, when making cookies, do you have to cream the sugar and the butter together? This and more questions are answered in the ATKFC.

Wonderful Cookbook

This is a wonderful cookbook. Along with great recipes, there are pictures to help guide you along the way. There are also very useful cooking and baking tips, such as why you should use unsalted butter in baking, rather than salted. One of the nicest cookbooks in my collection.
