sad

This book is about a boy named Jeffrey Lionel. When he was [...]he became an orphan. He went to live with the nearest relatives, Aunt and Uncle Dan. These persons hated each other, before Jeffrey went to live with them they didn't talked to each other. When Jeffrey went to live with them they stop sharing things. They had two of everything, two refrigerators, two TV's etc. Until one time when Jeffrey was 10 years old he was so tired of all those things that he runs away.

He run and run until he find this girl named Amanda. She became his first friend since one year. Later days pass by and every body knew him by "Maniac". As he had no place to live, he went to live with Amanda's parents. Later he left Amanda's house, and knew this guy named Grayson. He offered him cloth, food and a place to live. Maniac live with him until he died. After this he began to suffer again.

At the end of the story Maniac found a place to call home. And it looked like if finally he will have a place to lived. What I didn't like about this book is that it was so sad. What I did like is that even though he was alone he never got in to drugs.

Maniac Magee

Maniac Magee

Maniac Magee is a novel with a theme of suspense, and drama. Maniac Magee is the typical; happy child until his parents died in a car accident and he became an orphan. He went to live with his uncles and after eight years of ignoring his uncle's disguise between them, he took the decision that would change his life. He ran away from home, and he became homeless. He got to know Amanda, and he asked her for a book to read. Then, the climax of the story arose and after all the trouble he passed, he managed to return the book to Amanda.

Theme:

The theme of the story is a theme of suspense. Another theme would be racism. The last theme is hope, when he found Amanda he hoped that his encounter with Amanda would change his life.

Moral Lesson:

The lesson of the story is that you have to think about the consequences before doing something that you are not sure if it is right or not.

Likes/Dislikes:

I didn't like the way the book is written because the beginning is too slow, and boring. The thing I like about the book was that the story theme is an interesting one, and keeps the reader's attention.

My Review of Maniac Magee

Maniac Magee was written by Jerry Spinelli and I give it a four out of five. It is about a child who runs away after his parents' deaths and being unable to tolerate his closest living relatives, his aunt and uncle. This is the story of how his life story becomes legendary through many events throughout a segregated town. He shows that there is not a large difference between blacks and whites to the residents of the East and West ends.
Maniac Magee's real name is Jeffrey Lionel Magee; it came to be Maniac after accomplishing feats that the townspeople declared impossible or fatal. But, Jeffrey "Maniac" Magee was nothing more than a boy who wanted nothing more than to be a son. He spent a year running around the country, no one really knows what happened between the time he ran away and when he came to Two Mills. This period came to be known as "The Lost Year". When he arrived at Two Mills he explored town, people looking at this strange, raggedy child running through the streets. As he passed, all he said to these people was hi, and continued running. Jeffrey goes between East and West end numerous times throughout the story making friends and enemies.
As "Maniac" explored West End he came to a field full of little league players and the infamous McNab. This was a child who had struck out any batter to step at home plate. Until Jeffery Magee came along, he threw fastballs left and right, Jeffrey just hit them as they came. When McNab became fed up, he goes into the woods, and then comes out with a frog in hand. That is how "Maniac" Magee became the first to make a home run on a frog ball. When he travels to the East End he bumps into "Mars Bar". This is a boy famous for his glare that is said to stop traffic dead in its tracks. Jeffrey also runs into the famous "Hands" Down; a football player who can catch virtually any pass thrown at him. One day there was a pass that "Hands" didn't catch, because it was in the hands of "Maniac" Magee who was running down field spinning and dodging around every person he encountered until he reached the end zone. Then "Maniac" punted the football farther than Down's quarterback had ever thrown it to him, and it planted right in his arms and the strange boy had run off. Maniac encounters the Beales, a family who he comes to care about dearly, and also a man named Grayson, a former minor league baseball player who worked at the zoo. Jeffrey feels all is lost after Grayson's death, and runs away once more. During this time he meets the youngest McNab brothers and events in their family lead to them giving him feats such as entering Finsterwald's backyard and entering East End, and he returns with none other than "Mars Bar". In the end Jeffrey "Maniac" Lionel Magee returns to live with the Beales as happily as possible.
I would also suggest reading The Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo, Kira-Kira by Cynthia Kadohata, and Hoot by Carl Hiaasen. I am a 7th grader and I am 13 years old and I enjoy reading many different book genres.

maniac magee

I learned that theirs too many people that are rasist and they shouldn't be people that discriminate. Just because of their own color. In the story it was friendship, love ,and discrimination with Maniac Magee and Amanda. I learned that people should be more friendly and not for them to be rasist with other people . I liked about the story that Magee changed his little town were he was leaving in and , I dislike the discrimination of black people. But I like that they could make people think about not to discriminate other people's color.

Maniac Magee

Maniac Magee Book Review

Mania Magee is a story about a boy that runs away from home, his parents died in a terrible accident he was left an orphan. Jeffery Lionel AKA "Maniac Magee" who was sent with his uncle and aunt who were livid at each other and had many problems, which couldn't get divorced for church, believes. Maniac Magee who finds himself in a small town of racial-discrimination. Story based on friendship, loneliness and an adventurous book to read and entertain you self for as much as you read. Maniac Magee a teenager with problems tries to find himself in the right place to be in the way he meets many persons like Mars Bars, Amanda Beale, and Grayson people who were kind to him. Interesting part of the book was when Maniac found a true friend who offered him a place to live for as much as he wants to. What I like about "Maniac Magee" was that it's a cool book to read that makes you read more and more and your anxious to know what's going to happen on the next chapter or at the end of the book.
