Addicted to common sense

Laura Ingraham's radio program is described by her as not simply a radio show, but an addiction. Her latest book, "Power to the People," is another example of why those who listen to her and read her books find themselves quickly addicted to common sense. Her cogent arguements put forward in this book are a bastion against the dangerous elements of fringe left that have gone so far off the rails as to imperil some of the core values this country was built upon. Diversity of thought is something to be treasured, but PC state of affairs we live in now causes great concern when one realizes that there are states in the USA where a minor can't get an aspirin from the school nurse without parental permission, but she can get an abortion without her parents ever knowing.
It concerns me that one day one of my nephews will walk into a classroom at Princeton and have the tenured chair in philosophy tell him it would be acceptable to have his uncle's life terminated if he became too much of a burden on society. It is this type lunancy that Laura Ingraham stands against in "Power to the People." Read this book, an you will be addicted to her brand of common sense also.
The elite leftists in America abhor Anne Coulter because they consider her a bomb thrower ( God Bless, Anne. Keep them coming!) They should fear Laura Ingraham because she is a straight-shooter who has the courage and conviction to stand up for what she believes, not matter who may rail against her. Power to the people, and more power to you, Laura. Keep fighting the good fight!

Laura's not only electrical with her "Power" she's nuclear!

Laura Ingraham has once again struck it out of the ball park...I love her radio show, books, blog and web site. Laura has tackled all comer's on the rank idiocy that is passed and promoted as good and normal in the American culture that insidious and pervasive in our society today. She does this unapologetically and with a certain cutting humor that makes one think. Another great book...plus she's a dog lover too!

but to bring a sword

Laura Ingraham has written another excellent book, Power to the People. For those who listen to her radio show, as I do, are you will be familiar with much of what is covered in this book. Her writing style is just as insightful and humorous as her on-air personality; you know this book was actually written by her. Most of the book is similar to Bill O'Reilly's Culture Warrior, the main difference is that Laura offers suggestions that people can take against the politicians, scholarly elite, science worshippers, global warmies, liberal judges, the entertainment-pornography industry and all those who present a challenge to our traditional American culture. It is a call-to-arms to fight for our culture and our country. Laura brings her religious faith and experiences into the debate more than O'Reilly, which I enjoyed most about this book.

It is Laura's faith that stands behind my favorite sections of the book. Chapter 10, Taking the Real Power Trip (referring her recent trip to the Holy Land), she highlights the annual pre-Pascha attack on Christianity by the media-elite, starting with the Da Vinci Code (released during Easter season 2003). Laura lashes out at James Cameron and Simcha Jacobi and their silly `Lost Tomb of Jesus' Discovery Channel documentary of this past Easter season. She also takes on Jacobovici's `Brother of Jesus' documentary, although I don't agree when her sides with the Israeli Antiquity Authority on the James ossuary. The IAA is dominated by liberal pseudo-scholars, like ones she highlighted in earlier chapters, who get all giddy whenever they can claim an artifact that could potentially shed light on either the Torah or the New Testament a forgery. The debate is still open on this ossuary.

My personal favorite is when Laura ridicules James Tabor's new book, The Jesus Dynasty. On Tabor's premise that Jesus was the offspring of the Roman soldier Pantera; she comments "At least he's original." The sad part is he is not original; the Pantera myth was fabricated in the second century by the early Christian-basher Celsus (On the True Doctrine), and also appears in later rabbinic writings. I suggest Craig Evans' Fabricating Jesus: How Modern Scholars Distort the Gospels for more on the topic of Christian bashing by scholars.

Another favorite of mine is Laura's story of her fight with cancer, and the growth of her own faith. Laura recognizes the Holy Spirit at work in her life and is very open about it. She calls her cancer a gift from God, which strengthen her faith, and allowed her to"understand the redemptive power of suffering and the unexpected peace found on the other side of the cross." Her story is very moving.

I highly recommend this book, it has more to offer than the first half (and the title) suggests; read it all. My only complaint - what is with that silly cover font?

Well-written and pragmatic

I finished reading this book last week and would highly recommend this books to others. It is well-written and addresses a variety of issues in a pragmatic manner.

How bad does it have to get...?

...before we take the power back that we have so willingly given up to the federal, state and local governments and institutions. Laura Ingraham's Power to the People is a book whose intention is to spur action and it succeeds in doing so.

Chapter after chapter and topic after topic she lays out, often humorously, our current situation on topics such as, judges, our educational system, our culture, the family and several more. Be sure to have a pen or pencil and a notebook ready because I believe you will want to take notes. And if you have never written in a book before this may be the one you start doing so in.

I recently saw Ms. Ingraham at an event and she discussed how she wanted this book to be a "blueprint". I believe she has succeeded and I know it has personally made me further commit to taking action. If each conservative minded individual would take up at least one cause passionately we will turn the tide of where this great nation is heading.

Perhaps because of space limitations or because she didn't want to risk being "preachy" the one lacking thing in Power to the People was more direct actions we as a people could take. While Ms. Ingraham does an excellent job of presenting the issues, I believe some more specific actions could have been given and it is this reason only that I give it four stars. However, her intention may have been to simply spur thought and to let each individual formulate their strategy of how to counteract our current situation.

Let's take back the power!
