Best in the series, Alten's best book
This is Steve Alten's best book to date and the best of the MEG trilogy. The story takes place eighteen years after The Trench with Jonas Taylor a father of two and on a verge of bankrupcy. He has a chance to make his fame return to him by joining a very popular reality TV show called Daredevils as a special commentator. What he doesn't know is tha Angel is back, bigger than any of the previous giant killers and pregnant. She is being followed by a big male and a third MEG is following the show. Jonas and his family once again find themselves in a battle of life and death with nature's most fearsome killing machine ever created. This is Alten's best writing, best action, best story-line, best book period. Highly recommended.

Great but short.
I read the first 2 books years ago and was suprised to find this book in my neighborhood Borders. I bought it yesterday and completed it today. I was great but too short. If it had more content I would give it a 5. If you've read the first 2 read this book.
More Jurassic Sharks!
Alten's third prehistoric shark thriller is pretty close in quality to his first two. Parts of the overall plot are a little weaker in this one, but the writing style is as crisp as ever. I've viewed Alten for some time to be one of the most readable authors I've ever read, and that trend definitely continues here. I finished the book in less than three days, so it had more than enough meat to keep me going. This is a definite must for all MEG fans!

Not Too Shabby, But Melodramatic
Don't get me wrong. The book was well written, but somehow it felt trite regardless. The characterizations were a bit two-dimensional, the lines that should have been packed with meaning were a bit shallow, and the whole affair was a bit tepid.
Why do I say that it was well written, then? If all of my comments are negative, how can I not give the book one star? Well, the book is written in a technically superb way. Much like Data's playing violin (for you Trekkies out there), the notes are all correct and the pitches are executed perfectly, but there is no feeling behind the music.
A good effort by the author, but it almost felt as if he had lost any interest in the characters and as if Forge was demanding that he write another novel to fill his contract. If he does write another, I won't read it. It is just too much to sit through. It is one thing to technically make a wonderful piece, but it is quite another to make it, enjoy it, and make it so that it can be enjoyed. It has to feel spontaneous, not crafted.
A good effort, but falling short. Check it out of the library, borrow it from a friend, but don't encourage this type of bibliocide with a purchase. Buy something better, instead.
