HEART-SHAPED BOX...

Yep, it's February 14 again. That can only mean one thing, a maniac in a miner costume is on a murder spree! Is it the legendary lunatic, Harry Warden back for revenge? The small town of Valentine Bluffs is about to find out. I remember the tv ad for MY BLOODY VALENTINE back in '81. It showed the killer and his weapon of choice w/ the tagline: "Take... Your... PICK!" Priceless! If you are a fan of holiday-themed mad killer movies, MBV is a must! Make sure you hit pause when Mabel's head pops out of the dryer! Watch as drunken idiots decide to tour the mine where Harry was entombed and went nuts! See these morons split up when staying together would easily save their necks! No, MBV isn't as good as HALLOWEEN, but it's still better than the majority of similar films or their endless sequels. Enjoy...

Anyday Of The Year Can Become A Horror Movie!

Pretty much thanks to John Carpenters classic "Halloween" (1978) any day of the year can become a horror film; "Friday The 13th" (1980), "Mother's Day" (1980) "April Fool's Day" (1986) etc.

So on to "My Bloody Valentine" (1981). Synopsis: 20 years ago, supervisors of a mine shaft abandoned their post to attend a Valentine's party, leaving five miners trapped after an explosion. The lone survivor, Harry Warden, was institutionalized, and returned to town a year later to murder the two responsible, promising to return should the town ever again recognize Valentine's Day. Trying to put the horror behind them a group of young adults decide to try and throw a Valentine's Day dance. Needless to say, a maniacal killer begins to hunt them down and slaughter them one by one.

"My Bloody Valentine" is a let down compared to many of the other early 80's slasher flicks, in my opinion. The acting is really poor (even for a horror film), there's very little suspense and very little imagination(in other words things done in this film had been done before. Although the human heart in the heart shaped candy box added a nice twist). The score is lackluster at best, adding no sense of suspense, and the effects are nothing to write home about.

Recommended to die hard fans of the genre only.

A good waste of time....

This movie is a filler in between your horror movie marathon. The movie is about some crazy guy who is killing all the old people that work at the mine and in the town. What got me about this movie was the intensity of the last 20 minutes. It's great fun and you get all your stupid characters that are not developed at all. One of the major downfalls on this movie is the acting. there were two good actors in the film. The survior and the old guy with glasses. So if you are having a marathon put in toward the end of it but not before Slumber Party Masacre:)
