Great movie; makes me cry every time I watch it
I saw this movie years ago and have
always
loved it. Yes, it is a departure for Spielberg, but it's a great movie. The connection between Pete and Dorinda is so strong you can almost touch it. Also, it was great to see Audrey Hepburn one last time as a beautiful ethereal angel. John Goodman was terrific too.
THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW
I love this movie. It is ranked right up there with the best of them.
A Great Chick Flick
Say what you will about this movie - that there were technical errors in regard to flying (as I've heard from men who have pilot's licenses.) ...or pick the movie apart. I fell in love with Richard Dryfus and Holly Hunter in this movie and the raw emotions I could feel as they expressed love for each other and then anquished over his demise hooked me. I've been wanting to add this movie to my collection ever since.
By the way, I had a hard time getting past the characters they played in order to see them together in different rolls in the movie, Once Around. It took a second look at Once Around but I came to love it almost as much as
Always
!
No doubt this was a chick flick, but hopefully the guys could enjoy the flight scenes!

Good family entertainment
Always
is an entertaining movie that has a little in it for everyone? Chick flick? Sure, but with enough testerone pumping scenes and humor scattered throughout that guys will like it too. The firefighting scenes at the end can have you at the end of your seat, and the general theme of the movie keeps you interested throughout. A good movie to pick up for movie night at the house or for friends coming over.
Universal Records Should Reissue This CD!
After all the bombast of films like the "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" series, many would be forgiven for forgetting that composer John Williams is capable of heartbreakingly beautiful music. In 1989, MCA Records (now Universal records) released two Williams soundtracks that displayed this quality--"Born on the Fourth of July," and this one, from longtime collaborator Steven Spielberg's "
Always
."
Unfortunately, on both albums, Williams' contributions are only given a scant 22 minutes. The rest of the discs are filled with pop songs used in the movies. Granted, the songs are not bad in and of themselves (JD Souther's version of "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" is quite enjoyable), but it still seems somewhat unfair that out of at least two and a half hours (two in the case of "Always"), MCA only found twenty or so minutes of Williams' music that was usabe.
Admittedly neither film was a runaway success, but John Williams deserved much better than this.
A standout track is "Dorinda's Solo Flight," which closes both the album and the film. For me, its quiet dignity is a testament to everything that was good about both the movie and the soundtrack.
Note to Universal Records: If you should decide to re-release this one, maybe you could include Slim Gaillard's "Matzoh Balls"?
