As I Picture It

James and the Giant Peach in this production using entirely computer animation is exactly how I picture the classic children's book. The voices of Jane Leeves, Peter Dreyfuss, Paul Terry are among the cast of talented voices that make this bizarre, but lovable book come to life. Recommended with this movie: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Lemony Snicket, A Wrinkle in Time, and the Nightmare Before Christmas.

An Enchanting Adventure

This captivating film involves the viewer from beginning to end. Fresh, amusing and magical, the well told story is satisfyingly quirky. An inventive fantasy treat that all ages can equally appreciate.

Peachy Keen Puppet Animation

I was lucky enough to visit the set of this film in San Francisco while it was in production. Perhaps that explains my fondness for "Peach," being able to believe the life in these characters that I remember seeing as the less than foot-high puppets they really are. It's easy for the viewer to suspend disbelief watching precious, big-headed James on his adventures, especially in the warm-hued, sticky-walled confines of the half-eaten inside of a giant peach. Credit is due of course to author Roald Dahl's fantastic story.

The Tale of a Peach, Only 100 Times Bigger

"James and the Giant Peach" was a very good movie. At first, James Henry Trotter is introduced. James has very loving parents who care tremendously about him. Unfortunatley, James' parents are gobbled up by a violent rhinoceros. Poor James was stuck living with his evil auntsm Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge. They are very cruel to him and James' life went from perfect miserable. Next, James encounters a man who knows many things about him and gives him magical alligator tongues. James accidentally trips and the ongues get away. One of the things the man mentioned is that the tongues' magic will work on the first thing that they come in contact with. After James drops the tongues, a dead tree that has never grown anything starts to grow a peach. In front of their eyes, the peach magically grows larger and larger until it is bigger than the tree! Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker, because they are so cruel and selfishm use this peach to get money. They made the peach a tourist attraction. Then, James is forced to pick up after all of the tourists that came to see the peach. While he was picking up after the tourists, he took a piece of the scrumptious peach to eat, because he was so hungry. As he was about to take a bite, one of the alligator tongues leaped into his peice of peach. James got some of the magic. After he took that bite, a hole opened in the peach.
At this point, James' journey began. When he went inside the peach, he found himself surrounded by human sized bugs. Ms. Spider, Mr. Centipede, Mr. Grasshopper, Ms. Ladybug, and Mr. Earthworm were the friendliest creatures and they were all affected by the mafic tongues. With these kind friends James encounters many problems and situations over the span of the movie. Those are the key events in the movie.
There are some similarities between the book and movie of "James and the Giant Peach". The characters are all the same except for the silkworm. All of the bugs; personalities are the same. The aunts are also the same cold, curel, mean old people. The storyline is also very much the same. Many of the crucial events occur in both the book and the movie.
There were also several differences in the book and movie which are very difficult to explain.
I would rate this 4 out of 5 stars. It was a great book and a terrific movie.
