Simple advice...Read to your children
The research and explanations he gives for
read
ing should motivate everyone to read. Funny thing is...the people who need to read this book probably won't because they don't like to read...so they don't read to children. Great points and goes hand in hand with information learned from college in the education department. Take the time to read to your kids...if you need drive to do it? Read his book. Highly recommend it! It will give your children a headstart in school! And Life!!!!!!!

Aloud
Handbook
is every bit as well- written and chock-full of helpful information as its predecessors. Aside from the many great book reviews, it provides excellent reasoning and support for the practice of reading aloud to students -- all students. All English/reading teachers need to keep a copy handy.

There are so few "educational" books that are this much fun
Any
edition
of this masterpiece is a must-have for any teacher, parent, or human being connected with
read
ing in any way, shape, or form. Mr. Trelease presents a convincing argument for the importance (and joy!) of reading
aloud
, with plenty of case-studies and touching stories to give an emotional and logical edge.
Trelease says that reading aloud is something that should continue beyond the early childhood years of bedtime reading; just because a child can read on his own does not mean reading aloud is a bad thing--quite the opposite! Reading aloud is a pleasurable activity for people of any age. After all, who does not love to hear a good story? Reading aloud also shares a correlation with improved individual reading skills and overall intelligence. Maybe we can't prove anything, but there are absolutely no down-sides to reading.
This book extends the
read-aloud
concept to all aspects of learning, from childhood to special education.
Another bonus is a list of recommended read-aloud books.
This is a well-researched and very convincing book that is written with a sparkling syntax. Heck, it's just as fun and fascinating to read as anything else. Definitely a keeper.

A Must-Read For Every Parent!
Every parent and soon to be parent should
read
this book. I read this book when my first-born was an infant and found it so good that I made a note to myself to read it again when he turned 8.
A must for the library of a teacher or parent
I found the
Read
Aloud
Handbook
to be a helpful guide and resource. In addition to shedding light on the value of reading aloud to children, there is an extensive list of suggested books for reading aloud to children of many ages.
As a teacher, I found alot of supportive documentation for reading aloud in the classroom. We have incorporated required read alouds as well as daily Silent Reading for all students in our district middle schools. I recommend this for teachers and particularly parents who question the value of reading aloud to children, as well as those who agree to "spare their children" the "punishment or burden" of recreational reading. Young people need to learn to appreciate the joy of reading. They are missing out on so much in so many ways.
