Biblical Christianity has found a voice

I am very thankful for this book.

As a pastor, I found my life scrawled on the pages, and hidden amongt biblical truths forgotten. Some might find concern that this would be a catalyst to fuel a religious exodus from the "church" world that we all know. I don't think so. I feel that if anything, it will call us to question our motivations; what really drives us; the truest intentions and purposes of our hearts.

This is one of the few books I know I will read many times through the years. I recommend it to the strongest Christian... to the struggling wanderer... to the one in a limbo someplace in between. Read, and find healing. You will.

Paradigm shift or an encouragement if already shifting

This book has served as another source of encouragement and challenge as I try to unplug from all things "religious" or "institutionalized" it dares to point to Christ only in all things and at all times. All of the simple truths heard for so long in many ways are exactly that "truths" but for me have shuffled to the back in lieu of activity or service.

I want relationship and this book has served to help peel back the issues in my life to reveal where genuine relationship has been lacking and why.

Great Book

This is a great book. The simplicity in which it portrays our journey is refreshing. We make it much harder than it really is, with all the rules religion creates. The Father never intended it to be as hard as we've made it. It has helped me in my journey in the Father's love and for this I am forever grateful.

Refreshing, if not self-contained, narrative recast of life-in-God and life-in-church

Another volume I highly recommend to folks who find themselves disillusioned with the institutional church. In fact, with its emphasis on keeping faith, treating people right, and embracing God's confounding lovingkindness, I recommend you read this book before any other that I've read that deals with "church." It bears very little of the bitterness, pride, or elitism that marks so many other books on the subject.

Know before you read the book that it isn't an ecclesiological treatise. It's a faux autobiographical work that employs an episodic, post-congregational narrative to very seductively proffer ideas that the author hopes will help guide your "journey" out of the institutional church and "into the family of God." As such, it lacks exegetical rigor, and could benefit from a companion volume that mines Scripture for the ideas it advocates. It's also a bit dangerous: the narrator freely admits that people who want to abuse the ideas for their own selfish gain, will.

But oh, man, if you approach this book with a pure heart (or least wanting to approach it with a pure heart) and let the Holy Spirit teach you from it -- what freedom!

Excellent Book!

This book gave me a whole new perspective on God's design for the Church. It was easy to read, because it was written like a novel, and I really gained a new understanding of the heart of God for His Church!
