My daughter loved it.

Is it really relevant if an adult doesn't like this book? Or doesn't think it "delivers" on its promise? My 10-year-old daughter was given this book and was completely absorbed from page 1. It's one of those books she tried to sneak read at the dinner table. At the end she announced that she "can't live without" having the next one. My daughter reads a lot (esp. Harry Potter) so it really says something when a book captivates her this much.

At once romantic, hyperrealistic, and superbly entertaining

For some reason when I was ordering Gravity's Rainbow on Amazon I thought of this book immediately. The parallels are quite clear. The Mysterious Benedict Society is a book by, about, and for "lovers of the truth." And even while it entertains it takes that job quite seriously. The attention to detail will spark every reader's imagination-- I kept flipping back to the character descriptions to confirm them, so strong was my mental image. When it mentions as an aside the Nagorno-Karabakh territory, they're talking about an actual place in the world.

While the plot is of course a fantasy, it takes place not in some superhero universe but here on Earth, and you will see excellent descriptions of cult brainwashing, peer pressure, self-doubt, and the joy of taking on a challenge. I'd say a reader as young as 8 would be able to understand and enjoy this book, but I'm 20 and I still felt it spoke directly to me. I can't wait for the sequel!

THE BEST BOOK!!!

This is the best book ever! Everybody in my family loved it.
The book is about 4 children, each with their own talents, who are sent on a secret mission to spy on a man. The man, Ledroptha Curtain, is trying to destroy the world with his invention, the Whisperer. Curtain runs a school on an island to try to get more people to be like him. Nobody knows about his plans. The children attend the school and act like all the others to find out all they can about Curtain. When they discover that he is planning is to destroy the world as soon as possible they have to hurry.
Will the Mysterious Benedict Society make it in time? You find out!
Anybody and everybody will love this book. It is full of puzzles, riddles and much more. You wish the book will never end.
