Out of the several compilations I've seen of the Lovin' Spoonful repertoire,this 26 track collection just may be your best value.Specially for the price.Keep in mind these are the 'original' versions of the beloved power pop AM radio gems that no summer would be complete without.Tunes like "Daydream", "Jug Band Music", "Summer In The City"(Spoonful's best), "Nashville Cats", "Six O'Clock" and "Darling Be Home Soon" are sure to bring back some pleasant memories. A must-have for all oldie fans.

When I am feeling down and I look in the mirror and see an older man, I still think of these words and remember that life can be magical. All my failure and heartache seem to melt away as the Lovin' Spoonful transport me back to simpler times. Although these were some of the most politically turbulant times in recorded history, the Spoonful seemed to be able to see the good that was there and perfectly translated those good feelings into a sountrack of our lives. easy listening on the road

A wonderful album to listen to driving. John Sebastian is a great songwriter and performer. The band had a great synergy. They'd share the microphone and had fun making music together. I particularly am fond of Zal Yanovsky's lead fills, very tastefully done with subtle effects as reverb and tremolo. Easy on the ears. Each song has such a departure from previous styles. Reminds me of some of the best times of my life. Sensative songs, delicate delivery, more complex chord structures than most rock songs. It's about finesse, not volume. You'll be pleased.

Another timeless classic sunshine pop album from the 60's - a MUST own

Like many other 60's albums, The Lovin' Spoonful's "Greatest Hits" (ok it's not an album, but nobody prints theirs anymore) is an essential own for any self-respecting music fan. Thought not every song is great per se, there are a TON of timeless songs here ("Do You Believe In Magic?" and "Summer In The City" being but a few). You can tell they were inspired by The Beach Boys as well as The Beatles - their harmonies and lyrics are very similar (and the songs sound like The Beach Boys as they're pretty much all sunshine pop tunes, although they do vary a bit). The singers are perfect for the style and the lyrics are deep and indeed very catchy (and fun to memorize and sing!). Musically this is an extraordinary collection of songs. "Summer In The City" is essentially the PERFECT example of how to build up a song to its climax (for example - it plays the piano and bass for a couple seconds, then the drums, THEN the guitars hit and it's at that point you realize it's a classic - other bands take notice!!). A MUST have for any self-respecting music buff! GET IT!
