A Very Helpdul Guide For Parents of 2-5 year olds
I have finally found the book I have been looking for! It is perfectly sized to consult at a moment's notice; all you have to do is quickly look it up...40 worrisome issues are addressed such as ANGER, BEDTIME, BAD WORDS, PICKING UP THE TOYS, TALKING ABOUT DEATH, SIBLING FIGHTS, THE "GIMMES", LYING, MEALTIME, MORNING "CRAZIES", POTTY TRAINING, SEPARATION ANXIETY, TANTRUMS, WHINING, and more. It is written in a supportive manner-- the way friends talk to each other...with compassion, humor and excellent practical advice. The format is geared to busy
parent
s-- hundreds of quick bits of wit and wisdom to help a parent restore his or her sanity! The authors call the bullets of tips..."Sanity Savers". I love the short anecdotes that illustrate the skills, often demonstrating the exact words to try in order to communicate more effectively with a preschooler. I found myself laughing out loud as I recognized myself and my children in the many examples of daily battles. I love the "Take heart" section in each chapter that reassures parents that they are not the only ones who sometimes regret what they have said or done. We all need to hear that sort of thing over and over again. Many of the sensible suggestions have been working for us.
I highly recommend this unique book; it is the only quick-read A-Z book for parents of pre-schoolers that I have found on the market.

Many Alternative to Yelling, Bribing, Threatening, Criticizing & Punishing
This A-Z quick read guidebook, focusing solely on toddler/preschooler behavior, is a unique collection of doable toddler strategies. THE
POCKET
PARENT
gives moms and dads hundreds of choices to choose from as to how to handle whining, biting, hitting, tantrums, disrespectful attitude, meal and bedtime refusals, bad words, morning crazies, potty training, sibling fights, parent deafness, interrupting, not picking up the toys and much more. I love the fact that the subjects are in an A-Z arrangement and that each chapter stands alone... Actually each bulleted suggestion stands alone. You do not have to read the entire book to get a tip and some humor to make your day a little less stressful. The short anecdotes are fun to read and very familiar! They help me know for sure that I am not alone in the challanges I face daily.
Although there are a variety of A-Z behavior compendiums for sale, this is the ONLY one that has 400 pages written just for this age group on every annoying behavior you can think of.
Detailed, upbeat, comforting and loaded with suggestions that really work...at least once!

The Pocket Parent - Very Helpful
I purchased The
Pocket
Parent
when my son was 2 years old. I am still referring to it now that he is 4. It is perfect for a busy parent because it is a quick guide to great discipline ideas. It targets a lot behavior your child may go through - like sibling rivalry, bad words, friendships, manners, interrupting, lying, power struggles and more. Saying the same "mommy commands" can fall on deaf ears. This has givin me alternative ways to get the behavior I desire while sending positive messages to my children.
Pretty good little tool!
This book has a nice and easy way to reference things that you need help with when dealing with child issues. It lists the issue, then tells you a few different ways of handeling it. I already do a lot of the actions listed in the book, but there are a few new suggestions that help me look at the circumstance differently. Some work, some don't. But overall, the book is very good for a quick reference and also makes you feel like you're not ALONE!! :)
I recommend it!

Good Ideas, But not reality,
I have purchased this book because of the good rating this book has; But I think that the author may be writing based on a fantasy how he would like a two year old child to grow up.
The Book is base on two principles: one give your child what ever they want, the second one is if it doesn't work make a family meeting to talk about it.
Well I have a 2 & 3 year old: Children this age cannot be reasoned with and they do not understand the concept of a meeting. They do not follow a book of rules. Also it is irresponsible to give your child what ever they want, this is not a way of disciplining a child.
Except for the philosophy of the writer, I find the book hard & boring to read; It may be a good only as a reference book, to read one article at a time. Every piece of advise comes with some story that just does makes the book thicker but is not any importance or interesting to read.
The only part of the book that I did like is the "sanity savers"; these are short lines with advise how to deal directly with the problems as they happen.
