Dawkins is amazing...

Religion is MAN made, plain and simple. There are people who at one time lived on islands and never read (or could read at all) the Bible or knew of God, religion, etc. So, what does that say about religion? What about the Aztecs--who knew nothing of Jesus? Just because a group or groups of people set out to write a Bible does not mean that it is law or truth. It is and always was a way to control the masses. The operative word is Control--and it still works today by all MAN-made religions. Few people really understand the cruelty done in the name of God,religion, and Christ. Some of the most judgmental people on Earth are extremely religious and very controlling. All religions want to separate people into affinity believers. The world would be better off for people to believe in just treating others well instead of using their God to create an "us and them" atmosphere. We don't need the Bible to tell us how to be good citizens, how to treat others well, how to care of our children, how to just be the best we can be. Dawkins is trying to point out that we are more intelligent than the Bible, the Koran, etc. or religions would have us believe. We are not sheep! The God of Man is just an ancient rule maker to subdue anyone who would THINK for themselves and perhaps challenge the status quo. Thankfully, some were brave and intelligent and broke away from that limiting behavior of the pack or we'd all be still siting around waiting for God to tell us how to get out of the rain.

...if only people would read it with an open mind and not stubborn hostility. Well, for an atheist, at least, I found it quite uplifting. It makes you appreciate life so much.

Loving it.

I am so thankful that authors like Dawkins can exist in this world. Keep the great books coming. In the words of Bill Maher, "hopefully this book will soon be in every hotel room".

Theists NEED to realize...

Theists need to realize that arguing back to a "Big Banger" or 'unmoved mover' (i.e., something that can cause other things to move that itself was unmoved and/or uncaused) does not even begin to be sufficient for proving God's existence. In fact, it is not at all clear that it is even necessary. First, the idea of a "Big Banger" is routed in the Principle of Sufficient reason (i.e., that everything has a cause or reason for being). Humans like to depend on this principle in order to justify a "Big Banger", but the fact of the matter is that the Principle of Sufficient Reason was given up by philosophers over 200 years ago because it has not shown itself to be necessary (or sufficient). It may well be the case that some things have no cause or reason. This is not to say that this IS the case; simply that it MIGHT be the case. Given this, one cannot PROVE the necessity of a "Big Banger".

Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that there is a "Big Banger". Theists (just like Acquinas) falsely believe that this somehow proves God's existence. It does nothing of the sort! It does not prove that the "Big Banger" is omnipotent (only powerful enough to be an 'unmoved mover'); it does not prove that the BB is omnicient (only that it is smart enough to do the aforementioned); and most of all, it does not prove that this being is omnibenevolent (i.e., perfectly good). In fact, this "Big Banger" could just as well be perfectly 'evil'. Creating "everything" does not entail any amount of goodness. Hell, it doesn't even entail immortality.

So all that can be proved (being as generous as possible to the purporters of this argument) is that there is an 'uncreated creator'; but none of the 3 necessary qualities of God have been established (i.e., omniscience, omnipotence, and omnibenevolence) therefore God has NOT BEEN PROVED TO EXIST.

So please, theists, educate yourselves a little more before basing your claims on this useless argument.
