Gusher of Lies - Right on target
This is a great book on some
energy
topics of interest. It is well researched and cleverly written. Everyone interested in energy ought to read it.

Gusher of Lies -- a timely, enlightening, well-researched book
The
Gusher
of
Lies
is an excellent book; it should be required reading for those in Congress. The book points out rather convincingly that we need people in Congress who have something more than a legal background. Our
energy
policies are not only inadequate, they are harmful, based not on science but on political expediency.
How Politics and Oil mix!
This book is a must read for anyone who wishes to reflect seriously on politics, the reality of our environmental challenge and alternatives for the future. In addition to recommending the book I wish to suggest that readers immerse themselves in the material fully. A cursory reading may lead one to the conclusion that Mr. Bryce is an apologist for the oil industry; he is not. However, he does make it clear that there are no easy solutions to our
energy
challenge.
Among other things Mr. Bryce provides insight into how muddled our thinking has become on the issues. Our politicians have thoroughly confused issues of political diplomacy, pragmatic economics, energy
independence
and environmental impact. One wonders how we can possibly make any progress with such incompetent leaders.
The US is foolishly engaged in a miltary solution to the problem of oil supply as Bryce points out, while China, India and the EU aaddress the issue as one of securing supply through economic contacts; a far cheaper, more moral and responsible approach. He also shows how foolishly politicians have spent tax dollars to promote solutions that are neither efficient nor sufficient, e.g. corn ethanol. In addition he analyzes the problems remaining with regard to renewable sources of energy such as wind and sunlight.
Again a must read! If more of us digest the full meaning of Bryce's analysis, perhaps we might elect more competent leaders and help to initiate a responsible global dialogue on energy and the environment.

Author's Tone
Since I am a geologist by training and experience and spent several years in environmental remediation, I know the information and statistics the author cites is correct. BUT, the tone he adopted (screed) puts me off as much as the Neocon screed. If you can manage to look past this aspect of the book, there is good, factual information contained therein.
