A good historical read.

If you have an interest in quackery, or perhaps medicine on the fringe, this is for you.

You've got to read this to believe it!!!

The book is an easy-read, gives history about how we've come to this age of checks/balances in the medical profession (per se, at this point in time). It's aptly named. I recommend it strongly. Ford

Great Read!

If you have even just a tiny bit of interest in the world of quackery, you have got to read this book! Not only does the reader get a good look at the biggest charlaton in U.S. history, but Pope Brock man ages to do it with humor, all the while adding some of the most interesting trivia I've seen in a book in a long while. The Carter Family, Wolfman Jack, Sinclair Lewis, Carl Sandburg, Ben Hecht.............Do I have your attention yet?

Although this is a disturbing story, with relevance even today (Enzite anyone?), this is a great read that's filled with laugh out loud fun. I highly recommend it!

very interesting book

While I enjoyed this book, I think it dragged a bit. It is scary to think that people actually believed some of the "medical" procedures and medicines described.
