Moving, Very Well Written
I recently started a book club and this was our first pick. It could not have been a better choice. Everyone had it read in plenty of time. No complaints on the choice I made either. This book tells a very emotionally charged story. Once I started reading it, I was constantly stealing time to read, until it was finished. Hope there is a part II.
A magnificent story in the mist of a war torn country
Turning Pages Book club members were able to travel through the war torn country of Afghanistan, through the eyes of someone who lived through it and was able to escape. Although he was haunted by the past, Amir, was able to forgive himself of past selfish acts and through his journey back to Afghanistan to right a wrong,(Amir) was able to find out about hidden family truths, betrayals and save his nephew, Sohrab.
Khaled Hosseini, is the type of author who paints a very vivid picture through his writing; even though you have never been to Afghanistan or seen a war torn country, through his writing of this painfully sad story, the reader is able to see the scenery that is vividly being painted with words through out the entire story.
Mr. Hosseini's excellent writing style keeps the readers interest by introducing both heroes and villains through out this story; he also has a way of pitting the strong/powerful (Assef)against the weak/less fortunate (Hassan/his son Sohrab)and in the end he shows the person that has a pure heart, end up as the victor; Amir, because he went back to rescue his nephew Sohrab from being enslaved by Assef. The demonstration of heroic family pride, honor and talent which was displayed by both
father Hassan, and son Sohrab; (the excellent talent of using a sling shot), which saved both his and his uncle Amir's life.
The ending was most enjoyable because, this is where Amir, was able to redeem himself by doing the same thing that Sohrab's father(Hassan) had done for him that ultimately changed their friendship and lives!
This story demonstrated great family dynamics between fathers and sons (Ali and Amir/Hassan and Sohrab) and great friendship, servants, family ties, even in the mist of war.
This was a very interesting and exceptionally well written book, we can't wait to see the movie!

This book was just awesome!
I finished the book this morning and just cried! It's an incredible book about a 2 boys, mistakes, redemption, and trying to find good in a world full of bad. I thought it was so beautiful and loved the message that you can find good even when bad things happen. It's a message of love and hope. I rented the movie first and after loving that, knew I had to read this book! It was so-so-so worth the price of the book!
good read
I read this book before it really became a bestseller. It was the first book I ever read away from my ususal love story. I thought I needed to "broaden my horizons" and so I did. WOW, did I! It was great! Now I read all kinds of genre. Highly recommend this book. Good look at how others live.

Sad turn of events
The
Kite
Runner
is a book set in Afghanistan and USA. The Kite Runner is a story weaved around Amir, who is the son of a wealthy businessman, and Hassan, who is the son of Amir's Hazara servant.
In earlier years, there used to be kite flying competitions in Afghanistan that were a matter of pride for people. Amir wins a kite flying competition and Hassan is the best kite runner - a person who gets the last kite cut.
Everything is good till the Taliban takes over Afghanistan and everything turns upside down.
This is a story of friendship, loyalty, closeness, betrayal, cowardise, and love. Go ahead, this book is worth a read!
